I just started getting the ball rolling on this today, but, I've been kicking the idea around for quite some time. I've managed to lose a total of 55 pounds on my own so far, but, I need a tool that will REALLY help me achieve my goals and I feel that the lap band is the tool I need! I haven't always been a big girl. I went through a REALLY rough 10 years and in the process gained a LOT if weight. I've maintained since I've gained, except for the 55 pounds I lost so far. I realize now that food is NOT the answer and it's all still a learning process for me. I haven't gotten my first appointment yet and I still have to compile my 5 year weight history and get the thyroid test done to fulfill my insurance requirements. So, we'll see what happens! I have to go through a 4 month program for insurance purposes, so, I'm looking at surgery approval in December sometime. May be a Christmas gift to myself! I'm hoping to learn here some "insider" information. What this process is really like and what to expect. The fact that I have about 190 pounds to lose is SO incredibly daunting. My health is also a factor that has pushed me to the lap band decision. Yes, I have two obesity-related health conditions. Sleep apnea and a slightly elevated blood pressure. I also have a rare genetic condition that causes my body to form tumors and my Urologist has been on me about my weight for some time now and last time I saw him and found out that my right kidney is going to need it's 3rd surgery soon, well, that's what kind of put me to the final decision to do the lap band. So, here I am! Help me learn! What should I expect??
