Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Recommended Posts

I found a 6 pack variety pack of Isopure last night at GNC. I've been wanting to try it b/c I'm looking for a non-milk Protein Shake for some variety. I'm finding most people cut their's with Water and some add Crystal Lite for some added flavor. I absolutely can NOT do the unflavored Protein added to food. I'm sorry, but that stuff is NOT unflavored to me. I can smell it, I can taste it, and it's NOT pretty. BLECH!

CherieLynne -- I have heard people say to be prepared to gain a few pounds back once you start real food. I'm still on liquids til Tuesday so we'll see what happens at the end of next week. I'm so ready for some FOOD! loL!

Think most surgeons use dissolvable stitches, but mine are the (old fashioned) regular kind and will need to be removed. My abdomen looks like a kiddies stitching class!

I tried some Protein Powder and mixed it up -yuk. Think I'll stick with soft scrambled eggs or lentil Soup for my Protein.< /p>

I have a question for all post opp. what is your lever of hunger after surgery? From day one to week 1 o 2 ? I am on my 4 day of liquid diet and I am hungry now. Just wondering how the liquid diet after the surgery goes. :)

First of all, my doctor is pretty conservative for the 3-week liquid phase. I was allowed broth, diluted fruit juice, sugar free popsicles, Vitamin Water, Protein water and gatorade. At Day 7 (or Day 3 if I couldn't stand it any longer) I could add drinkable yogurt.

I was pretty hungry for 5 days until I started drinking liquid yogurt. That really helped. A few days after that, I was allowed to add Protein Drinks, followed by cream Soups. This is all I can eat for 21 days.

I'm now on Day 16 and really haven't been super hungry since the first few days. I find that protein helps--the protein drinks stick with me longer, and I'm also drinking Special K20 protein water, which also helps.

So based on my experience, you'll be feeling less hunger, especially if you can add more foods. From what I've read on this forum, lots of people are able to eat a lot more than I can, so hopefully, you'll feel less hunger than I did.

Sorry I wrote a book!

... my Doc. said I might have shoulder pain for a few days after ...

I was very lucky ... I had no gas pain in my shoulder or anywhere else, for that matter.

The surgery on Tuesday the 19th went well, although I ended up spending 6 hrs in recovery because my oxygen levels would keep dropping...from 97 to 77 and in between. They finally sent me home at 2:30 even though I was in recovery by 8:30! I felt great but a bit woosy that night and was able to eat ice chips and have sugar free popsicles with no problem. I woke up Wednesday, however, and all hell broke loose. Anything I drank ended up as foam in my mouth. I wasn't sick. I would just all of a sudden within minutes of drinking have a mouth full of foam. I also developed a fever and headache by noon, probably due to dehydration. I called the doctor and my husband brought me immediately to his office, where he removed the saline in my band. He said I probably developed swelling at the site overnight and now that made the band too tight so as soon as he removed the saline I could feel a big difference and since then I have been fine. He also has me on liquid prednizone to bring down the swelling. The good news is, I haven't had to take any pain medication at all and have been able to shower, etc. since Wednesday. I have been driving since Thursday, going shopping to get walking in. The biggest issue with me has been not sipping properly and boy your body let's you know it. Foam has become my friend LOL! It lets me know I gulped an ounce rather than sipped it. A friend of mine had LAP-BAND® surgery a year ago and said to try hot tea. Hot peppermint or chamomile tea works wonders! I am also now using ice cube trays to put my drinks in, which prevents any gulping. I am using a baby spoon to drink my hot tea, also, and really, I have to say there has been no pain. My steri strips are falling off every day. I have bruises starting on the tummy at the incision spots, which are very tiny except the port one, and a big bruise is on my arm where they put the IV. I feel much better than expected, that's for sure! I'm not very hungry yet but then again, it's only the 3rd day.

Hi VERO! I was on full liquids from day 1-8, and then moved on to mushies/semi solids from day 9 up to today (day 12). I didn't feel hungry on my liquid diet. But I started feeling the hunger pangs yesterday, especially mid morning or mid afternoon. Tried eating sugar free Jello, but the hunger comes back after an hour or so.

Starting day 14, two weeks after my surgery, I am already allowed to eat anything, but I will get my first fill on that same day. I am excited for my first adjustment.

The Isopure frozen in ice cube trays works great (I love the blue raspberry). It controls how much you are sipping at a time but you still get the Protein. GNC has sales once in a while where you can buy one case, get one at 1/2 price. Make sure you join the club also. You pay $15 but will get $8 off your first case!

That would be awesome.. I am pretty excited about Tuesday...

On Friday the surgeon's office called and I thought it was to cancel the surgery but it was actually just to push it from 0730 to 0930 which isn't too bad...

Hang in there.. in 30 days we should start being new people :):)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
