Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has gone thru Lap Band with Dr. Brengman. I have my first appointment with him on Oct 21st. Wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect from the first visit and what your experience with him has been.

I just had surg. on 10-07-2009, by Dr. Brengman , he is wounderful!!

How ever I did have problem with the staff getting back with me.

where are you at in the process?

It took about 6mo all together to get the insurance to cover the surg. 2 denial letters and an appeal to get it approved. while I was waiting on the approval I did all the requierd classes and Dr. visits.

Good Luck

I had Dr. Elliott who was a partner of Dr. Brengmans until a few weeks ago. ( it was a HCA Bon Secours Split). I have heard very good things about Dr. Brengman. Not sure if he does his fills or if a nurse or PA does them. I know with Dr. Elliott he does all of his own fills which I like. I think Dr. Brengmans surgeries will all be at St. Mary's now( they may have always been there). I think you would be pleased with him based on what I have heard.

I started off with Dr. Elliott, LOVED his staff!! I had to change because of that split.

Dr. Brengman has been nice, I miss Dr. Elliott's office staff. I will see him next week for my 2 weel post op visit, I'll find out than if he does his own fills or if the NP does it? My best friend had the lap band placed over 2 years ago and Dr. Brengman was her DR. I also know a few other people the DR. Brengman banded. They all have done well.

Good luck 2 you!

Dr. Brengman is my doctor, and he's been great. I saw more of him prior to my surgery than afterward, but that was my choice. I really like his NP, and she does a great job with fills too. At minimum, Dr. B wanted me to see him at 4 weeks post op and at six months. I could schedule my monthly to six weeks appts with him or the NP. Every time I scheduled an appointment, they would ask me who I wanted to see. I'm self pay, so I don't know if it's different if you have insurance.

I have a low profile port, and his NP never had any problems with my fills...never more than one stick. Actually, all my fills have been quick, easy and one stick. I could also request my fills under fluoro, and because toward the end of my first year, I was still not quite at my sweet spot, the NP ordered a pressure fill for me that Dr. B did under fluoro (they said they only do these with patients with the Realize Band and they measure the actual band pressure).

I've always found his staff to be friendly and very professional. I was also impressed to find out that the staff and doctors had all done the two week pre-op diet.

(O-2bthin, your first fill will be under fluoro in the Pain Clinic at St. Mary's (terrible name, but the fill didn't hurt a bit). There was a woman who did mine, and I didn't even ask who she was. I'm not sure if she was a doctor or a NP.)

How did your appt. go with Dr. Brengman? He was highly recommended to me by a another bandster.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
