True Confessions Of A LapBander

Recommended Posts

I'll be the first to confess that I am not the model LapBander. For the most part (about 95% of the time) I have lived by the Golden Rules of an ideal LapBand Lifestyle...............However, I have gone astray on occasion. Here are the top 5 of my personal LapBand sins that I have been guilty of: What are y'alls (Texan Talk)?

1. drink liquids with meals

2. eat way too fast

3. drink an occasional diet coke

4. chew gum

5. eat beyond the first feelings of fullness

Wy can't we chew gum? I never heard that before. I better be able to - it's the only thing that will combat the rank breath I have since being banded!

It is believed that chewing gum causes air to be swallowed, thus leads to bloat. Also, gum, if swallowed can get lodged in the stoma (opening)........not good!

My top 5 bandster no no's are:-

  • Drinking directly after eating - I'm only guilty of this after dinner though
  • Because that Water I had washed my dinner down lol, I go back into the kitchen for a snack sometimes :/
  • The occasional coke (not diet either!!)
  • Eating after a PB (small one) has passed
  • On occasion, I have a baked potato for lunch (where's the Protein in that?? LOL)

I've only been banded since 9/26 but I'm supposed to be on 2 weeks of liquids (protein shakes) well, today I thought I would gag if I had another shake so I had yougurt.

I had diet black cherry last week when I didn't know it was a no no.

Bandster no-no's for me...

Continuing to eat after a small PB. Big ones go straight to liquid but I have broken the rule and continued my meal after a quick easy one.

Sipping with meals, only when needed though (ie: dry food)

Cheetos. There is just nothing that is good or okay about cheetos.

Not waiting 1/2 hour at least for after lunch or dinner coffee.< /p>

Chewing gum but I don't feel bad about that. I only chew a 1/2 piece at a time and only for 10 minutes or so then spit it out. It hasn't caused me any problems so far but I have considered switching to mints.

  • Eating after a PB (didn't know this was a no no until I just read it on this list!)

  • Sipping my husband Dr. Pepper (oh how I miss Dr. Pepper!)

  • Snacking on cookie dough at 10 pm when I KNOW better then to have cookie dough in the house!

  • Ocassionally taking a drink after dinner to get the taste out of my mouth

  • Comparing my self to everyone that is losing faster then me and being very discouraged and down about it (hmmm... maybe if I got rid of the cookie dough I might lose faster? something for me to think about :))

Great list :-)

My no-no's...

* Drinking Water with meals. I know this is why the scale has stopped moving

* No exercise.

* Not getting a fill when I know I need one and needlessly going months without any weightloss

* Expecting my band to do all the work for me

* Not buying clothes that fit me- how can anyone tell I've lost weight if I'm still wearing clothes from 30 pounds ago?

* Obsessing about my caloric intake

* Eating everying *but* Protein first

I hope people use this list for good instead of evil :-)

Alright, I :

- sip on Water with my meals

- have a 24 oz. Cappuccino every morning

- was having a coke at lunch (I stopped only this week)

- don't exercise (there are a million excuses but no actions)

- eat way more than the 1/2 cup limit

- although I sip on water during my meals, I don't drink it at any other time

No wonder I haven't lost weight! I just widh I could stop feeling sooooo hungry!

It seems to me that everyone has just about the same NO NO's

Well mine are, Drinking Water with my meals all the time. Eating after 8:00 pm,

and not exercising enought.

I keep saying I'll try harder on the exercising and not eating after 8:00, but for the drinking with the meals I just don't think I will ever be able to do that.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
