Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Wow, I missed a lot being offline for a few days.....

Heather - my sympathies. I cannot imagine what you are going through. ((((HUGS))))

Haydee - definitely red velvet!

I've gotten a few more calls from recruiters for full-time work, but then you never hear anything else. Very frustrating. Here in NC if you are on unemployment, you can earn a certain amount and still get your full payment, so I applied at Target and Walmart for 15 hours a week. Target called today and I have an interview on Friday. It's not much but $130 per week would help!!

Last Wednesday, my Mom had a car accident. Some lady pulled out in front of her to turn left. Mom hit the front of her car but didn't T-bone it. Mom's car was totaled, but she only had the bruising from the seatbelt. Very lucky!! So Saturday she e-mails that she bought a new car -- another Chrysler Sebring but this one has a larger sunroof -- it's a convertible!! I am laughing because she never opened the sunroof!! And a convertible in Indiana -- she's lost her mind..... She says, it has air conditioning. Ok, but what about heat -- you're gonna need that soon!! I am kidding, I'm glad she could get what she wanted.

Off to Curves.

Suzy - glad to hear that you signed on with Target. It's at least work until you can find something else!

What a day what a day....

So much work. I paused for 15 min to scarf something down and it's been non-stop ever since. I'm headed to my first cake tasting right now. Hope it goes well!

Mmmmm, cake.

I'm a good friend. So maybe I should help Haydee & taste some, too! Cuz' it'd be helpful. I know, I'll be in charge of tasting cakes here in Md, so Haydee doesn't have to travel to do it. I know, I know... so thoughtful of me. :)

Good evening, Violets..

Loving Glee tonight.. and got to switch over and watch a bit of Modern Family. What a stitch that is too!

Choir was semi-ok tonight. Sure not the fun evening I used to have. At least I got to see Grady for a half hour. Gramma moussed his hair up a little bit.. ;o) He's such a cutie. Going to watch the end of Glee and then go read The Help for a bit.

Michelle... back away from the cake!!!!

I made some killer hamburger Soup today. The Bobster says it's the best I've ever made. I just threw in this and that and some spices and it turned out pretty darn good! I hope there is enough left for lunch tomorrow!

Everyone have a good evening. sleep well..

Good evening!!

I hope I am on your Christmas card list Laura!

Will be thinking of you tomorrow, post, call, text or something to somebody so we know you are okay. Oh wait, tomorrow is just Thursday.............

How is your son Michelle? Maybe I can save Haydee some money and time and do some taste testing here in St. Louis.

Going to fold laundry and some other things.

Oh wow, it's time to do secret santa.

I dropped the ball eh??? I am having deja vu, I coulda sworn someone brought this up and I handled it... must have been last year!!!

Ok, PM me if you want to join the list. Unless you moved since Last Christmas, or did NOT participate last year, you don't need to send me your addy. Just send me some likes and dislikes that are relevant to someone who would buy you something.

Get this to me by Oct. 21, that is when I will send out SS picks!

Good morning, Violets..

Suzy...hope things work out at Target. Every little bit helps, right??

Janie.. yes, you brown the hamburger, drain off the fat and then add the Soup stuff. I put in beef broth, a large can of Tomato Soup and then veggies including cabbage. I add spices too, salt, pepper, marjoram, basil, parsley, anything that I think smells good.. lol

Glee was sooooo funny last night and so was Modern Family.

I have a rehearsal at 3, dinner out with the group at 4 and then playing for a college reception from 5-7. Looks like my afternoon and evening are planned.

It's really dark and dreary out right now. Leaves are all falling.. a typical Fall day in northern Michigan. It's 35 degrees right now. I just turned the furnace up to 65.

Off to find some Breakfast. Everyone have a great day. Will check back later.

Buenos Dias~

I don't have to teach today (or next Thursday) because of meetings at the district office. It is hard to be out of the classroom, but these little breaks are just that...breaks. It is nice to get away from time to time...less need for mental health days, and I Love Lucy.

Judy, Glee was great last night! I LOVE Jane Lynch...and still have a huge crush on the teacher. I need to see Modern Family, but will have to start that during reruns because we DVR GLEE and Law and Order SVU so we have to watch either one of those. USUALLY we are sleeping by 9 (but I stayed up to watch cause I didn't work out and have this meeting).

The hamburger Soup sounds good. Can u put the receipe on the thread. I am not very good at cooking and guessing. How much hamberger, broth, etc.

I will be sans puter today so don't have anything big go on w/o me! Or someone text me if something big happens.

I am 'cited about Santa coming!

I really like making Soup. I like putting stuff in the crockpot, and coming home and smelling it!!

Much busier this week and last. I think it was just a major slump. I hope.

I am wondering if we should do something for Sue leaving? Charlie still hasn't talked about it, which is really odd, because he is good for tmi, so I don't know what do you all think?

I love Modern Family and Glee also. I dvr both. Then last night I watched them in bed. I very seldom fall asleep watching tv, so it is a nice relaxing way to end the night.

Have a good day!!!!!!

Good morning ya'll!

Michelle and Jane - ya'll are such good friends! Volunteering to taste cakes for me, so nice!! Make sure you get a good variety and then send me your thoughts, LOL! love ya'll both, muah!

I love love love Glee and Modern Family both. Pam, you can't DVR two shows and then watch a third show? That's usually how we do it...

Laura - can't wait to see Carson's pro pics. I'm sure he was too cute! Can't believe he's already 6 months!

Judy - YUM! I love hamburger Soup but mine never comes out right. Please post the recipe and i'll try it this weekend. Do you put macaroni in yours?

Ok, the cake tasting was amazing last night. He brought me four pieces. One was white cake with French buttercream, one was lemon cake with lemon buttercream, one was Italian cream cake and one was chocolate with chocolate buttercream. OH MY GOODNESS they were all so good. So moist and flavorfull without being overwhelmingly sweet. And that buttercream! Pure butter! So good!!

I was ready to sign a contract right then and there but my mom convinced me to wait until I go to my second tasting tonight.

I'm so excited!

Oh and last night I called one of my aunts that had been asking me if I had found a baker yet just so I could tell her that I found one that I liked and out of the blue she offered to pay for our cakes! That was so wonderful of her!

My shirt that I'm wearing today is a maternity shirt and I didn't even realize it when I bought it. Now that I know I feel like I look funny.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
