I am two weeks (tomorrow) post op and I have gone back to all of my normal activities, including playing volleyball. I just started this week with spin on Tuesdays and Thursdays, V-ball on Wednesdays and I just started to do the Couch to 5K work outs on Monday (I have done two workouts so far). I also have done the tredclimber twice too.

I go to a gym that offers a range of classes so I think I will try a new class when I get bored with what I am doing. I am not a DVD person. I just wont do it at home. The only ones I have done in the past are yoga videos.

I worked out a lot prior to surgery, but I struggled with eating. So I guess this was what I needed to do. I am a little frustrated though bc the first week I lost 8 lbs not working out at all crazy this week. Hoping that I will see the scale move after another couple of days. Anyone else have this problem?

sounds like fun I should play some vball (:

I only lost 9 pounds since surgery and the scale hasn't budged so I hope when I do more exercises/workouts hope it moves too.

I'll be 3 weeks post op Friday (:

Right now you are healing. Don't worry about the weight loss it will come. The first month or two is always a little up and down. Just give your body time to adjust!

WTG on the exercise! Love the C25K - best thing I ever did.

I am about 3 months post op and I live in Florida, but I LOVE to work out in the pool. I take a Water aerobics class every Saturday morning and I work out usually twice on my own in the pool weather permitting. I do aerobic things like walking, jogging in place, etc to get the heart rate up and I do a lot of toning excercises, like crunches, leg lifts to the front, back and side all in the water. I can do squats and lunges in the water and I couldn't do these excercises on land, at least not yet... but I can in the water... plus the water is great resistance which helps w/toning... I would suggest that you try to find a water aerobics class nearby... I know that a lot of LA Fitness locations have pools and offer water aerobics... I take my class in the city pool and it is only $3 a class, so I am very lucky....

Thanks Krtork! I will keep the healing in mind--its just sometimes you want to see the results immediately. I am sure I will succeed if I continue with working out and eating right.

The Couch to 5K has been a little harder than I imagined. Maybe its just because I am so overweight right now starting it...and that I have only done two workouts! When I ran before I could easily go a few miles w/o probs, now not so much!

don't worry about the initial weight loss. I know for me, once they did my first fill, the weight started coming off a lot faster....so just start with the work outs and that will definately help but once they do your first fill, you will definately see a difference...remember, PROTEIN! LOL

Really anything you do just to get moving will be beneficial. But just to give you other options and tell you what I do. I just get out and walk at least 30min and i try to do it everyday, or if i don't I try to do a workout video here at home. The biggest loser workout video kicks my butt!! lol But it works!!! I hope you find something that works for you and you like it!! I didn't think I would like walking, because I think I tend to get bored, but then my boyfriend bought me an MP3 player to put songs on and wear while walking and I LOVED IT!!! Made all the difference!! Best of luck to you!!

Lizabeth, you are right.. anything that gets you moving is great.. I enjoy walking but I live in S. FL and it is hot as hades MOST of the time and is just too hot to get out and walk.. LOL and the gym at my complex is only open M-F 9-5, lot of good that does... LOL so that's why I enjoy working out in the pool, plus I find I am more likely to work out in the pool because I enjoy it, so I don't make excuses to NOT excercise... LOL

I don't do videos, but I have FIT TV, I love it. I watch Sharon Mahn, she does all kinds of stuff, Kick Boxing, Power Yoga, regular Yoga, and I do the Bodies In Motion. I also do Belly Dancing, Hip-Hop Dance, I walk, and I ride my bike. The first 6 weeks after surgery I didn't do much but walk. I got bored with walking real quick which is why I record shows off of FIT. I am thinking of maybe starting going to the gym also.

If you don't mind me asking.. What is the couch to 5k challenge?? I have a tredmill and an elliptical at home. I usually do those at home and then do my walk/run in the evenings. I don't have the funds right now to do the gym. Plus I work through the week and my kids are in school so it would be hard for me to get to the gym anyway. I have lost almost 20 lbs and Tuesday was my 3 week since surgery....

Heres the Couch to 5K program that I am following: Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan I think these guys are the ones that came up with it. I am still in the first week, but the workout is pretty good since I haven't ran in a long time--it gradually works you into running more and more. I want to get back into running bc a lot of the success stories that I have read on this site says that they run for exercise. Good luck if you choose to do it!

i want to go swimming so badly, my doc said i could and im 3 weeks post op now but i worry about one of my holes, it dont look happy, and its scab came off too early >.<. and ive been itching to go swimming. walking on the tredmil is way too boring for me, i cant stay on it for longer than 10 mins, i listen to music too. i like walking outside, im going to be getting up early to go walking, maybe around 7am while its still cool out. i cant find anything i truely like, i mean i like my DDR game but for some reason i cant get my playstation to work on the tv right now, i have the biggest loser workout DVD and its intense but i like it. but i need a variety of things to doo, i like playing frisbee so i might play some when my friend comes over tomorrow too. if i had a horse, id be doing something everyday. refilling Water buckets, carrying food to them, cleaning stalls, and grooming, id get a workout...someday! anyways also if i had a good walking dog, id beable to go for a walk without excusses, i miss my dog ): my bff always asks to go for awalk when she comes over but she hasnt been over or even called like she was going to. i like bad mitten so i might start playing some tomorrow maybe, i cant think of anything else i like to do, hmm, i like shopping but im saving my shopping money for next weekend hmm

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
