Ouch, my port is hurting me this weekend!

I don't know what I did, but my port is hurting me again! It started with a burning pain and quickly progressed into a sharp pain. I used ice to help and have to prop a pillow under it when I sleep.

I had forgotten how painful that part of the surgery was until this weekend:-(

I will call the doctor in the morning as I don't have a fever, but am starting to feel like I have the flu.

My guess................ infection. It isn't hot to the touch, but it is swelling and very tender.

BK, were you able to get in touch with the doctor this morning? What did s/he say? How are you feeling now? I hope it's not an infection! Please keep us updated.

I went in and he did a quick U/S and didn't see anything. He thinks I must have torn some scar tissue around the port. I was trying something on and wiggled to get it over my head.

I am to rest it this week and let him know if it isn't feeling better next week.

Should it not be better he wants to do a catscan to check on it to see if it is a possible small hernia or something.

I am feeling better, only certain things make it hurt now. I am turning over in bed again, so hopefully that was the worst of it.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that you're starting to feel better! Hopefully it is just torn scar tissue and nothing really serious. I know from previous surgeries that scar tissue can really hurt, so I can imagine your pain and worry! Take it easy and get some rest. :)

Hey BK, I am right there with you. I have started tracking my port pains, quick piercing pain that comes and goes. For me I have noticed it worse during my periods. I spoke to the PA, who I love, and said that I can expect port pain up to a year. He said the same thing about tearing the scar tissue. So I know exactly where you are coming from. I just know to take it easy during that time. hope you are feeling better.

Yeah had another long episode last night. It seems related to me cooking:-) DH says no we can't just eat out *lol*.

I hate not knowing when the next pain episode will hit and how bad!!

I have been having port pain also. I am going to the doctor's next Thursday for my monthly appointment and I'll talk to him about it then. I hadn't thought of scar tissue. I hope that's all it is.

Last night I had a really sharp pain that took my breath away. The other times it's just an on and off sharp pain that reminds me that I have a port on my waist line.

I had my CT scan yesterday, so hopefully he will be able to tell me everything is ok. I had hoped it would be 24 hours for results, but they said 72 hours. So my rush to get it done once insurance approved..........was for nothing.

My doctor is in surgery Thursday and Friday, so I have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday when he decides to review it *sigh*.

I am glad to have the images, it is pretty cool to see the band and my port inside me.

BK, waiting is the worst, isn't it? Ugh! I'm glad you got the CT scan, though. Hope they can figure out the cause of your pain.

Seems my port is fine, but I have a cyst in my abdomen! So off for more testing, but my band has not failed me.

Oh my goodness, BK! You are a walking mystery! I hope they can get rid of it quickly and easily! Glad there's no problem with the band. Good luck and keep us posted! :blushing:
