I was banded on 8/7 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MA.I am 3 days post op and feeling good most of the gas pain is gone I still have some pain at the port site.I took the week off from work but may go back early depending on how I feel.I'm pretty tired still may have some thing to do with only getting 4 oz of Fluid every hour I am alternating 4oz Protein Shake with 4oz sugar free liquid ie crsytal light, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, broth, or water.I am not hungry at all Thank God!I did get on the scale my surgery day weight was 206 yesterday it was 208.5 and this am it was back to 206 I'm sureit was due to the fluids from the hospital the gas and bloating plus I was blessed with TOM this morning.Best wishes for a speedy recovery to all us August Bandits.

I was banded on 8.4.09 as well! What a wonderful idea to have a group of us - all going through the same things around the same time!

I had pretty bad gas pains in my shoulder/collarbone area. Taking Aleve and walking really helped. I was banded in Cincinnati. I'm on the "puree" food diet for another week and 1/2. Doing all right!!

Hi everyone,

I was banded 8/3. My surgery experience was okay. The first 3 days were the hardest. Nausea the first day, had trouble even drinking Water. Did not want Water, food or anything. Gas pains started day 2 and 3, and were better by day 4. I've taken it very easy and will return to work tomorrow.

I've been really hungry too! Starting about day 4, I get more hungry every day. Tomorrow is my follow up appt with my doc and hoping to start on mushy foods tomorrow ----- cant wait for mashed potatos !!

Good luck everyone!

I am so sick today. Had diarrhea this morning, chills and a fever of 101 later in the day. And all I do is cough and cough and cough. Took 12 hour cough Syrup cause I couldn't stand it anymore! I called my surgeon and he thinks I have a virus. Have been on the couch or in bed all day...feel like a truck hit me! Glad I have this week off from work; I'd never make it in.

Hello, I was banded Friday Aug. 7th in Champaign IL. Everything went fine with surgery. I did pass out that night... I think my blood pressure bottomed out. I feel better everyday tho. Not too much soreness, am having some gas pains. I start my full liquid diet tomorrow and am ready. I feel hungry. I have been on Clear Liquids since surgery. I would love to be an August bander. How do I join?

I have a confession. I was banded on August 3rd. My doc told me water/broth/protein shakes for 3 weeks after. Its just his policy I guess. I cheated! Not only once but many times. I've been eating since my 4th day post-op. Nothing major really, just when I have to feed my kids and husband I steal a bite here and there. I chew really well so nothing gets stuck but when something goes down rough I just drink Water and it goes right through. My husband thought it'd be a good idea to maybe get some won-ton Soup for the broth to add some flavor to what I am stuck eating. I ate a won-ton. I need to stop. I have 2 weeks left until I go back for my 3 week check-up. I have to stop eating real food, but I am so hungry. I have no idea when I'm supposed to feel full. I haven't gotten sick or anything. I just need to stop. Also, I haven't been able to pass gas or go #2 for about 2 weeks, 1 week pre-op and 1 post-op. Ever since I cheated, I've been tooting up a storm and today I went #2. I need to stick with my directions, I feel bad I cheated but I'd still be starving and constipated if I hadn't.

I had mine done on the 1st and I m still a bit sore. I have not been hungry but feel a bit vulnerable. Last night I got a bit depressed. Maybe because I cannot stuff my feelings anymore, which is a wonderful thing. My kids came home from a weeklong trip with their dad and said I looked like I had lost weight! I said thanks, but they did not know about the surgery! I will take it where I can get it. I wonder how many days I can expect this soreness?

Today is a okay now five full days out, I don't know if I had a fill during the surgery but I am having a hard time taking my pills like I have to wait a half hour between each pill instead of taking them like I usually do. Still haven't gotten the hang of measuring out how much I am really drinking, I am still on full liquids and haven't cheated yet haven't really had the urge, which is good for me.

I had family over all day yesterday and it is funny to see how their lives are consumed by food, I had to leave the room a few times not because I was craving the food but just because for the first time I saw something that was one of my problems with food, I see everyone else having fun with it so I have to have it too... even if I am not hungry hmmm...

I got on the scale today and OMG i lost 10lbs since my last weigh in on July 27th at the Drs. office. I didn't log it yet because I know this is not the time for weight loss but healing but wow... I have felt my body temp increase especially at night I am sweating in my sleep and I remember hubby doing that after he had his gastric bypass, and that was when his weight started to melt away, I personally would be happy to not have my thighs rubbing anymore. LOL:wink:

New symptom- noticed a little ball near my port sight under the skin rather hard feeling, and I know I had a seroma when I had my abdominal hernia repair, so I am woundering if that is what this is, doesn't hurt just annoying. I plan to call the surgeon to check in anyway.

I was banded 8/7/09, and after reading all the post am surprised that many of you are pudding and shakes... my nutritionist told me clear liquids 1st week and then liquids 2nd week and then mushy foods the 3rd week... I have a lot of gas pain in my shoulder area and sometimes in my tummy but sometimes I feel really hungry???? I think I will try a Protein shake- that may help. Looking forward to seeing how everyone does!!

My surgery went well on 8/04.. had bad gas pains in my tummy area and thankfully were gone by 4th day post op. I have no soreness now but have been STARVING!!!! Cat Martin.. I cheated too. I had some bites of my family's food as well and I was fine. I saw my doc for my 1st week post-op today and told him I am starving and he said to go ahead with the next stage of foods.. as long as I can comfortably eat the foods in each stage with no problems I am good to move ahead. He told me that my surgery was one of the easiest he has ever done and said I probably do not have any restriction so eat what I can but do so slowly and chew thoroughly. I essentially do not feel anything when I eat, I feel normal, its weird. No soreness whatsover, no nausea, no restriction.

Its interesting to see where we are all at this first week out of surgery. I am already able to eat chicken and whatnot as long as its chewed well. My first fill is scheduled for September 10th and will be done in 'real time' or on x-ray so we will see exactly how much it will restrict me. All I can say is, I love yogurt, pudding, and Jello but bring on some mashed potatoes! I am not so much of a 'sweet' eater but rather salty and am looking forward to having something savory tasting rather than sweet tasting.

I wasn't banded during the first week, but on 8/8. I had to stay in the hospital overnight per my insurance. I'm really only sore where the port is. I had horrible gas pains in my shoulders but that is pretty much gone today. My surgeon makes us be on 2 weeks of liquid diet and I'm already hungry. I'm kinda worried about getting through these next 2 weeks. I have my first pre-op appointment on 9/11.

I was banded Friday the 7th. Am feeling ok except for the port site, its still painful. The other little sites are fine. Today is the first day I've felt hunger. I was on clear liquids for 48 hours and an now on full liquids. I did have cream of wheat this morning, and small curd cottage cheese for lunch - not much maybe 1/4 cup - but was hungry about 2 hours later. I am due to go back to the dr in a few days. Today is also the first day I've been wake all day!! LOL. I've taken nice naps the other days. I have pain in my port site while sitting for more than an hour, so I'm walking a lot, which I guess is good. Looking forward to feeling better!! Hope you all are doing well.

I think it gives extra motivation!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
