FINALLY! 3rd fill the charm!

Recommended Posts

On Tuesday I had my 3rd fill (I was 3mos post-op). Until Tuesday, I was all but cursing the LapBand, wondering why I spent so much money when I was just using willpower anyway. I had only lost 4 lbs since surgery, and was VERY discouraged. But since my fill on Tuesday, I FINALLY feel relieved! THIS IS WHAT I WANTED! I now have a stopping point, no willpower needed! I'm not hungry! This is great!

So those of you that are still on your first or second fills, hang in there, sooner or later, you'll get here! This all IS worth it!

Thanks for the info. I had my first fill Monday 8/3. I'm doing ok but last night about 1 hr after dinner I was looking for something! I didn't care what it was, my stomach was rumbling. I had 1 cracker with a little Peanut Butter and that did the trick for the rest of the night.

Hey FarmGirl - This is SO good to hear. I'm almost 3 months out and have had 2 fills. 3rd fill is 1 week from today. I have only had about 3-4 instances where I've felt the tiniest restriction. But other than that...NOTHING. I can eat anything. pizza, chicken, steak, pork, Pasta, breads. All without even chewing and chewing. (I try to just for the practice, but it goes right down without). I'm maintaining my weight by trying to watch my portions but it's getting hard. I'm ready to get to that sweet spot and start losing again. How many CCs did it take you? I'm at 6 right now in a Realize band. I'm sure that next week's fill will put me there or close. Good Luck!

Hey farmgirl, Congrats!!!! I'm waiting on my sweet spot. I have a 9cc realize band and i have 5 cc's in it. I have a little restriction, but not near what i'm hoping for. What kind and size is your band, and how many cc's do you have in? Hope you don't mind sharing your info. Happy Losing!!!!

I have the Lapband AP band, and I'm not sure what size it is. I know I had 2cc's in my first fill, but I didn't even ask on the last two.

Until my 3rd fill, I could also eat anything. Dry chicken got stuck a couple times, but other than that, breads and everything went down fine. But now, I can only eat a VERY small amount of bread. Yesterday I made homemade burgers, and I couldn't eat half of one (maybe 2/3's of half). I felt very satisfied until our next meal, no hunger at all.

I didn't think this feeling really existed, but it does!! Just took a while to get here!

Woo-Hoo! :wink2: I'd be doing the happy dance, if I were you :nanahump:

I get my second fill on monday. Hoping for some results. I haven't gained. But I haven't lost, either :Banane56:

Again, Woo-Hoo

I feel exactly the same way Oreo09. I'm thinking about food way too much and eating too much. I've gained 2 pounds in the last month. I'm at 5cc in a 10cc band and I have absolutely no restriction. I'm trying really hard to eat right but I have my good days and bad days. Just trying to be patient and reading all of the encouraging posts helps a lot.

Wow you are so lucky, I am almost there I can feel it. Going in for my 11th fill next Friday. Three is an unreal number to me.

Something really weird happened with me. I've been really starving after my first fill and also after my 2nd fill on 8/5, (now at 5cc in a 10cc band) and two days after this most recent fill, I suddenly felt restriction. The doctor said that it could take a few days after a fill to feel it and I didn't know if I heard him right but it really did happen. The day after my 2nd fill I was starving when I ate Breakfast that morning but by 2pm I was eating chicken and I could feel that it was going down slower and that I needed to chew it more. Today at work it was really busy and I wasn't able to eat for seven hours and I was hungry when I finally got to eat but not starving. That's really freaky that that happened. Does anyone know why it takes a day or two sometimes? Has that happened to anyone else? Maybe the saline takes awhile to go down that tube from the port???

I had my surgery in January and lost almost 50 pounds until I got my third fill two weeks ago. My doctor did not want to give me my third fill because he was wondering how I could lose all that weight even though I told him I did not think I was feeling any restriction but reluctanlty he did give me another fill. I believe I am at 3 CC's now and I think I am feeling restriction like I wanted.

I still am not sure if what I am feeling is normal but I now maybe eat about 2 cups of food at a meal and have a healthy snack between meals and have lost over 10 pounds since my fill on July 24th.

Farmgirl - congrats on your sweet spot. I got mine my fourth fill about 10 days ago and WOW - what a difference! It really slowed down my eating and the amount of food I can consume. I have had a couple of sliming episodes from eating too fast since then, but no Pb'g so that's good. It feels like this restriction is what I was waiting for. The lbs are melting off this past week and I'm thinking the Labor Day goal may be attainable at this point.

Anybody who isn't there yet - keep the faith! It really does work!

AWESOME Farmgirl!! This is the type of post I LOVE to see!! I am scheduled for my first fill on 08/24. So, I am hoping I don't have to have too many fills before I get to that point. That is so awesome!!!

I am so glad that I found this site!

I had my surgery on 4/30/09 and first fill on 6/16/09, I go tomorrow 8/11/09 for my 2nd fill I hope it helps. I am struggling, not losing so much now, pretty much just maintaining. I was scheduled for my 2nd fill 6/28/09 but had to cancel because of my work schedule. Now I am having a hard time going to the Doctor because I am not doing well. I guess I feel like I am not ready for a fill because I am not loosing as much as I "should". (I know that doesn’t make since, because if I was losing, I would not need the fill) I am guessing that is the pre-programmed mentality. For the record that is frustrating. I do feel hungry a lot, I don’t over eat, I keep thinking I am eating so much less than I was before but not losing. I seem to be tired all the time. I have just started to drink my Protein Shake, because my hair started falling out and to help with the energy. Yes, it took my hair to start falling out to start drinking them because they are horrible. FYI, in case you care…Special K Protein shake are my preferred to dated.

My support group meets once a month, while I am working. I am starting to feel pretty alone. I am looking for someone to correspond with to keep me from going crazy. I am sure that my family would appreciate the help there too. I am sure it helps to talk to people that really know what I am going through and feeling.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
