Slow Losers - Unite!

Recommended Posts

I have lost 40 lbs in 7 months. The first 22 were while I was on the liquid stage the first 4 weeks post op. It's taken me 6 months to lose the next 18. So if I have 5 months to go, and now I seem to lose about 2 lbs a month the past 3 months, I think I will qualify to stay here.

Do you think we need to start a new thread for slow losers that feel they are slow losers even if they haven't had the band a year?

I don't think it is that good to lose the weight so fast. I didn't gain it in one day, week, month, or year. I put this weight on in 15 years. With the band I will lose it faster than I can be myself, but if I realized that the 7 pounds a year would be one day a hundred pounds over weight I would have done something then before it got out of hand.

I am the type of person (or was) that put other people and things before myself, I didn't take time to do the things I should of done for myself. That is part of the New Life stye I must learn. That I take care of myself first. By the way I have lost 33 pounds and no fills yet. I was band May 6. but as long as I am losing 1 pound a week or two I will keep on going.

Good luck to everyone!!!

I read the first page and it said during the first year. It didn't

say you had to have the band a year.

I haven't had it a year either. However, I do think there's a difference between those who have had their band close to a year and aren't losing and those who are three weeks out and think they belong here.

:D

I completely agree. It's so much fun in the beginning to see the scale dropping, but we can't expect that to go on and on. I know it does for some people, but not for me.

I do start freaking out, thinking that I have lost all that I am going to. I talked to a lady tonight that has had her band for 3 years and is still losing. That gave me hope!

Sorry. I usually make a habit to keep my opinion to myself for this very reason. I'm not trying to say that people can't post here, or can't consider themselves slow losers. I'm just trying to give you some perspective. Like I said, I'm also not saying not to be frustrated. My post was mostly in response to posts I've seen of people banded less than a few months who are 'ready to throw in the towel' or 'ready to buckle down for a long ride' when I don't think they've given there band enough of a chance to tell them how well it is going to work one way or another. I certainly didn't mean to insult anyone, and will bow out of this thread to avoid doing so in the future.

Please don't bow out. I totally understood why you posted what you did. I was starting to feel the same way honestly about some posts...

Your experiences and insights have helped me a great deal!

I completely agree. It's really wonderful to know the band never stops working. I will be happy if I continue to lose as time goes on. It's frustrating to not lose as fast as other people, but I know without the band I would be heavier than I was on the day of surgery. I know I am headed in the right direction.

Marimaru has had her band for 3 years and that's proof that as long as we stay on track, the band shows results! Way to go Marimaru! Your wedding pictures are so wonderful!

Count me in too! My consult weight in February 2007 was 207 (on a slight 4'11" frame). I was down to 196 when banded on 4/10/07. When I had my first fill on 5/8/07, I weighed 197. By June I was down to 188. Now, I am at 194 and will be getting a 2nd fill on 8/14/07. My goal is 99 pounds.

Hi Everyone.. I feel like I have hit a darn wall.. I seem to go up down btw 241 and 246 like I gain relose over and over and over.. and aunt flow is the determining factor.. I am due for aunt flow soon and i get to 241 and poof Aunt flo shows up back to 246 ugh.... I been filled 3 times current fill is 3.4 cc

Some days I feel I could eat a roast and feel no restriction and eat eat and eat and other days I can barely get Water down?

Over the weekend I went to yosemite and I got altitude sickness and I was vomiting and only could get down water by sunday I was able to get down oatmeal and monday when I was home I could not stop eating and I was eating breads like no tommorrow Not that I eat bread in fact if I eat bread I will vomit but daughter brought home some crazy bread and I ate it before it but some odd reason I was craving bread and I mean I ate like I was starving to death and could eat anything and OH man next morning oh MY I am soooooooooooo sore around my stomach port etc so yesterday I could only eat 1/2 cup of oat meal

I was not able to even eat lunch and for dinner I had 3 oz of salmon and baked potato small and some veggies did not finish my potato or veggies .. what is going on?

Could I have band slippage? due to vomiting? and now it went back .. in place?

My weight loss is only 9 lbs in 15 weeks and I swear some days I could eat a whole cow .. LOL and next day I cannot eat anything.. and if I even dare eat anything wrong or do not chew right I will vomit.

I am sooooooo sore in my band area today and am kinda worried as I was really vomiting alot over the weekend but pain did not start tell I had a eating binge and I am so upset with my self I even did that..I cannot beleive I did that but I was starving for not eating in days..

Any suggestions what is going on?

I did hit my port with a case of water I am just sore.. today soreness comes and goes.

I see my doc in 2 weeks

ME TOO!!!!! What does that mean???

I am trying to decide if I need another fill or not. I was banded on 1-12-07 and have 2.2cc's in my 4cc band. I have lost about 30 pounds, but am so frustrated because I haven't lost an ounce in forever!

I am seriously trying to figure out if you are supposed to be a little 'uncomfortable' when you eat with this tool, or if you should be able to eat a small amount of almost anything (no bread or Pasta for me!) and just be very patient for the weight loss . . .

My doctor has said that it will take me longer to lose because I only 'needed' to lose about 50 pounds (his opinion, not mine).

Any thoughts will be appreciated ~

Lynn

Wow! One of the most difficult things for me to do is practice discipline. Although you can eat these things, try really hard not too. Remember this is a tool. You can do it!!!

I can so relate with all of the postings on this thread. I was banded 02/02/07 had my 5th fill today and have lost a total of 20 lbs most of these lbs were lost post-op. I lost 1lb since my last fill 4 weeks ago. I really thought I was on my way, and had reached that "sweet spot" last month because I really had good restriction. After 1 1/2 week my restriction was no where to be found!!! I am feeling such like a loser that I can't even lose weight after a "weight loss surgery".

To add to my frustration my dr says to me today, "Well, it looks like you are going to have to work harder at this than my other patients who have the band". I literally wanted to kick him in his teeth and say no kidding genius!!! Even after my fill today I do not feel much restriction!!! UGH!!! I am soooooo frustrated....

I know how you feel. Let me suggest that you journal your intake and maybe this can help you see what you are eating.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
