Slow Losers - Unite!

Recommended Posts

OK - so I've been away on business for a week, and aparently I have let my duties as the 'Membership Chairman' lapse.

So the 'official' rules of the turtle tribe require that you have averaged less than a pound a week loss since being banded ( I looked it up in our bylaws)

With that as our guideline, Lovecats (Laura), can't officially join us for another few weeks. However, I submit to the committee (Vines, Best Me and Candy) that we approve her membership on a temporary basis, with the understanding that with our love and support, she may graduate to rabbit status.

Carrie has as exceeded our membership requirements as well. She has however been very active on our little section of the board. We can submit to the committee for 'auxillary, little sister' status. Her membership to our sorority (and while I'm on the subject - why is it that all the turtles are woman??) can be given a favorable review at a future date should her weight loss slow precipitously.

The Great and Powerful Oz has Spoken!!! (pay no attention to that woman behind the curtain!)

Ok, little sister, auxillary sounds great. Thanks for the support VQ and Marimu (we have the same doc). I don't want to stop losing weight, but at the same time I feel far from a rabbit. 1 - 2 pounds a week doesn't feel very fast to me...but who am I to complain? As long as it keeps coming off, I will be ok. Just to let you know, it's frustrating on this side of things too, because I just want it to go faster!!! I love all my big sister turtles and I will be checking in on you as usual!

Carrie, don't forget that 1 to 2 lbs per week is supposed to be our goal weight loss rate. You are doing fantabulous!! I understand how you feel frustrated tho. I felt like that when I lost my first 25 lbs right away.

:)

Thank you for clearing this up - bye bye rabbit Carrie - thanks for being a part of us, please stick around for the support!

Lovecats - sorry to be the stickler but we look forward to you joining us very soon if you need to. Your application is being kept on file - please ask for review in a few short weeks when you are eligible :)

Dear Jorjet,

At this time you do not meet our high standards of dropping less than 1lb per week. By my calculations you were banded on April 21, 2005 and to current date that is 34 and 1/2 weeks meaning you have to have a loss of 34 1/2 lbs or less. You are far above that at your current 50lb loss. Way to go! This is excellent - if you are at a plataue then please feel free to hang out and read up on our different techniques we are continually trying to jump start our weight loss. Please join us in the future if your weight loss continues to plateua and we will be here waiting patiently for you. Of course you will have to wait for the official word from our Chairman - Live2Canoe.

Hey guys - Vines, Live2Canoe, the best me, - I need a position as much of a dictator that I am - LOL - should I be the Membership Approval Officer? :)

I think we all know - or find out very soon - that the hardest part of all this is overcoming the emotional eating, sugar cravings, bad eating habits, and making all the lifestlye changes that are essential to do well. the band does not help with these parts at all.

I found some great Guided Imsgery CD's that address just these issues and helped me make the changes needed. I'm doing a lot better than I was. The person who recommended them to me was one of the people who tested them before they were released - and the group all thought they were a huge help. Nothing else like them that i know of.

These might help you too - and, at the very least, are deductible :-) as a medical expense for our band needs.

If I have any voting priveleges attached to my membership, I'd say Yay!! You are a good candidate since you are so hard core on rule following. I'm a softie and would let anyone in who identified with turtleness...:)

That said, Smooch, look at my numbers. I haven't seen 187 in about a week, but you could put my average weight at about 189, safely. I have been banded for 36 weeks and 2 days...that makes a 34.4 pound loss...still a turtle. Okay. Never mind for now. I have a feeling if I can manage to be remotely successful getting down below 185, I would be at risk of graduating. I hit plateaus so frequently, I don't think I'll be graduating anytime soon though. That's okay. I love you guys and I'm fine with staying here for now.

Jorget...your loss is wonderful, please don't be discouraged! Hang in there. I swear, I think our bodies just need a minute to grab onto and maintain our current weight before it wants to let go of more. Keep at it. I'd love to talk about what you think is keeping you from losing more, wanna fess up? I could use the brain work...go ahead, just because you can't be a turtle doesn't mean you can't join us.

Bandster Hopeful...I like that link. I am considering some of the CD's but, honestly, I want to research this hypnosis thingy and make sure I'm comfy with it before plugging in and zoning out on God only knows what. Know what I mean? I doubt the CDs will have me dancing like a chicken or stripping in public, but, ya know. Anyhow, thanks for the link. Maybe I'll start a link about hypnosis and see what folks have to say about it?

Hmmmmm interesting - I just received a rather rude and derogatory PM from Jorjet since my last post here about her membership.

Apparently she states that I butted in while I'm not a good supporter of this board and I need to find something else to do with my time this along with other things she said.

Yes Jorjet I'm outing you because I really really did not appreciate that when I was trying to support you as you see above I congratulated you on your weightloss and being a good thing. By the way I didn't go doing any "research" on your banding date - its right on your signature. I will be turning that PM into a moderater.

If anyone else feels that I am an unproductive member and am wasting everyone's time here then please feel free to let me know and I will go WILLINGLY. I am pretty upset about this as this is the first friction I've experienced since being here. Thanks Jorjet

Jorjet - I have to agree with Smooch that your weight loss has been too rapid to consider you a true slow loser. I'm sorry if you felt that Smooch was butting in. That was not her intent - I assure you. In fact, we applaud the success of rabbits like you all the time - it's just that we who have been averaging less than a pound a week weight loss have a very specific and different set of issues than people like you do.

In the meantime - I think you should Celebrate your awesome success!! 50 pounds is wonderful, and something I have yet to acheive in my 15 MONTHS of being banded. You might want to think about starting your own NSV list (non-sale victory). Vines is the queen of the NSV list and it is always quite motivational to read hers. We're talking about things that have changed for you that have nothing to do with the scale. Things like the seatbelt on an airplane fitting better, being able to cross your legs, being able to walk up two flights of stairs without feeling like your going to pass out. You get the idea!!

Good Luck and keep posting!

Okay everyone, no hard feelings on the Slow Losers thread. Life is hard enough. Group hug...come on now, let go of hurt feelings and lets get back on track.

Jorjet, you and I were both banded in April, and I went through my diffucult period gettng beyond 208...a number I hated and one my body loved. I know how you feel. Just because you have lost more than 1 pound per week since banding doesn't make your journey any more difficult for you. I KNOW how frustrating it can be. PM me if you'd like. You really do have support here, even if you can't put Slow Loser on your sig...I know it's a silly little thing but it's important. Please be okay and don't regret reaching out.

We are kind of silly about the "Slow Losers" thing - I hope you understand why it's so important for those of us who are losing less than a pound a week to have a place just for us.

You speedier losers have the whole rest of the board!!! I encourage you to spend some time and read Vines eloquent posts on this thread about how hard it is for us to really get all worked up and feel bad for someone who has lost twice the weight we have in half the amount of time.

We don't mean to act like some dreaded high school clique -

(((((((hugs)))))))) all around.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
