Funeral

This morning I will be going to my friends funeral. Last week unknowingly to all of her friends she went to Mexico for lap band surgery. She planned for a weeks vacation. She left on Monday and Tuesday evening I received a phone call from her husband that she had died. Supposedly she had a heart attack mid surgery from anesthesia (sp?)

Needless to say I am sad, perplexed, and filled with questions.

She was only 40 years old, filled with life, and really not all that fluffy.

Yesterday, she was to have returned to work. Instead Tuesday morning is her funeral.

OMG this is soooooooooooooo terrible!! Unfortunately some people react differently to anestheia - this just breaks my heart to hear when something like this although I know its not unheard of. Had she ever been put under anesthesia before? My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and you as well as you cope with the loss of a friend. Please post more information when you get it........so sad :) big hugsssssssssss :(

I am so sorry for your lost. The doctors warn you about the statistics of death with going under but I don't think any of us believe that we won't come out of it. Thank God she was sleep. My prayers are with you and her family.

Fee, I think that is what Teresa was saying. She said this:

"The doctors warn you about the statistics of death with going under but I don't think any of us believe that we won't come out of it". Not that is was from the lapband.

As with any surgery, people have a risk with anesthesia. We go under and we never know if we'll wake up again. It's so sad that we sign that sheet of paper that is possibly signing our life away.

Pre Op tests in Mexico are very basic, they are nothing like here in the states. Here in the states they do an EKG to make sure your heart is in good shape, they run much more extensive tests. In Mexico it is a blodd test, you speak with a cardiologist, you speak with a pulmonologist, have a chest X-ray and you are on your way

I'm very very sorry to hear of your firends passing. Will there be an autopsy preformed, how does he know it was a heart attack?

Was your friend a memeber here at LBT, I remember speaking with someone who was goping to Mexico and then having a vacation afterwards...I'm wondering if it was her and if so what was her screen name here

My Condolences

I had blood drawn, an EKG, a physical with consultation, but not a chest x-ray or a consult with a cardiologist or pulminologist. My OBGyn here in the states said that a skilled anesthesiologist is just as important as a skilled band doc. True.

I'm really sorry about your friend. I would love to know more. Many condolences.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
