SOOOO Excited

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I will be banded in 2 days and I'm SO excited at the moment.

I was told to go on Optifast for a week pre-op, but decided to do 3 weeks instead to give myself a head start.

I've lost 5 kilos pre-op and have another 40 or so to go (hopefully over the next year).

I can't believe this is finally happening and can't wait to start this amazing journey.

I know the next couple of weeks will be tough, but It will all be worth it I'm sure.

Best of luck to anyone else who's having their op in August

OH! how I envy you...I still have about 10 weeks to wait ( waiting for private health cover to kick in ) Like you I am already trying to loose weight, mainly to help with the knee pain I am suffering at the moment but also to make sure my liver is in the best possible condition for the op.

My first Dr appointment is made for 28th Sept so my op will be in the 3 weeks after that.

Good luck and stay in touch, Id be interested to hear how you go, I am in Queensland, I see your in NSW.

Have a great day

Hi

I'm back !

It's been three days since my banding and I have to admit I'm still in quite a bit of pain.

I first day after the op I lay in bed wondering what I'd done to myself ! Even sipping Water hurts because you can feel it getting 'stuck' between your ribs.

But things seem to get better each day and I'm hoping that I'll start to feel normal again when the swelling goes down.

My Dr was very pleased with how the op went and he's confident that I'll get a great result.

The last time I saw him in hospital he said ' give it a year and you won't recognise yourself'

I hope he's right !!!

I'll write again when I've got more positives to tell everyone

Best Wishes

Kyla x

Well, it's now 12 days after surgery and I'm feeling really good now!

I must admit the first week was awful, I was trying to stay positive, but in the back of my mind I was wondering if I'd made a huge mistake.

I did sneeze a few days ago which left me with quite a bit of soreness at the port site (take my advice and try not to sneeze!), but all the other pain has gone.

It's weird not being hungry. Most days I'm eating half a yoghurt at about lunchtime, then some Soup at dinnertime, which all amounts to about 400 calories a day. I should be ravenous, but I'm not !

And the great news is that I've lost 7 kgs so far (3 weeks Optifast and 2 weeks post op)

I can feel the difference already and I'm wearing clothes that I haven't been able to fit into for years (good job I kept them, eh?)

I'm going into the mushie stage from wednesday, which is great because I'm getting a bit tired of yoghurt and soup.

Oh, another strange thing that's probably worth a comment. The liquid diet has given me breath that could be used as a chemical weapon ! I hope that stops as soon as I start to eat normally as my husband won't come near me at the moment!!!!

Fingers Crossed

Kyla x

Congratulations all you newly banded ladies!

I think we all go through the whole "what the heck have I done" stage. Trust me it is all worth it!

Kyla - I had a giggle at your breath comment. I remember waking up one morning thinking.... what is that smell. I was horrified when I realised it was my breath!

The things we do!

Hi Everyone

Im back again!

2 weeks post op, still quite hungry, phoned my surgeon today to discover that i dont have any restriction yet! (explains why im hungry, i spose) he said i have a medium band and mentions with a 9ml limit or something, have no idea quite what that means, but hey, never mind, i get to go see him around week 5, hopefully to have some restriction put in place. Cheers Carol

I had to wait 8 weeks before my 1st fill (which I've just had...thank goodness). I was quite despondent as I was eating pretty well as much as before banding and didn't understand why I was so hungry & could eat so much. The practise nurse just said to eat more Protein & less carbs!!!!

At my fill the Dr said he put a large band on (he'd told me he was going to use a small one ) so there was absolutely no restriction. He put 7.5mls in & I can certainly notice a difference.

I am so relieved & excited to feel I have truely joined the band brigade at last.:w00t: (even though I had a nasty experience with grain bread last night.:frown:)

So keep on keeping on Carol. Those next few weeks will pass & in no time you too will have some restriction!:tt1:

Kyla you are so fortunate that you dont feel hungry. It's so hard for us hungry fiends to hear of you guys who are not hungry right from the start.

I have NO doubt you'll be as happy as I am (Unless you have some weird complications that do happen.. rarely)..

It was the best decision I ever made.. It's good to have my life back. A week of pain after surgery is worth a life time of health and happiness..

Hope all is well with all of you other lovely ladies!

Hoooooraayyy for us. Hahah. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
