1st fill and gained weight !!!?????

Recommended Posts

I could really use some insight or support from all my fellow bandsters.

I went for my first fill on July 6th and got 2cc. Before my fill I went from losing weight steadily to not losing anything but staying my current weight and now since the fill I have gained 2 lbs. It is really getting to me because I was doing so good, I was strict on myself and ate all through out the day , a lot of little meals. I'm still not eating like I used to but I am eating more normal foods now but I don't feel like I should be gaining weight. I don't know what to do and while my family is very supportive, I don't think they get how disappointed I feel in myself the fact that I am now gaining weight. Did anyone else go through this? When is it to soon to go back to Dr. for another fill. I know I am not tight enough yet. Any words of wisdom you all could give me to help me feel like the fact that I am gaining weight might be normal.

Hi LovedinFl

I had the same problem. I was gaining weight once the fills started. I asked the nurse if I was the only person he has seen that comes in for weight loss surgery and gains weight? He laughed and said that he sees a lot of people gain one to two pound between visits until they hit the right tightness for that person. You just have to be patient and don't be hard on yourself. I go back to morrow and think I am getting close to being at the right tightness. Just keep the faith. Oh and I go every two weeks for a fill but I think every doctor is different with how often they will fill certain people.

Good Luck

Thank you for your responds, that makes me feel a little better. I am going to call my Dr tomorrow and make an appointment for next week. I mean I didn't go through this to gain weight. LOL. Good luck to you.

Remember that your body has to get used to the band, and that you were probably on mushy foods when you got your first fill.

Its not until you start eating "regular" foods, and not mushy or liquids that you start to lose the weight. I didn't lose any weight between my surgery date and my first fill.

I gained about 10lbs from surgery to restriction. Once I found restriction i lost those 10lbs and then some but it does happen.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
