Gross taste in my mouth

I have been on my pre-op liquid diet for 10 days now. I have this horrible taste in my mouth. I feel like my teeth have a film over them.

Is this keytosis (I have no clue how to spell that one)

Is it pre- op gitters going into my mouth?

How do I get rid of this?

Will I have this after the surgery for a long time?

It feel slimmy?

Am I just wierd?

Dianne,

When I was on a liquid diet I was on a support website like this. Almost all of us had that weird taste. It could be related to ketosis. It is a normal side effect of the liquid diet.

I had that exact same thing. Ketosis just gives you funky breath. That furry teeth feeling is because of the liquid diet. You don't have food to chew and help get that off the ol' teeth. I brushed A LOT when on liquids only.

I also got a terrible white coat on my tongue. It's normal. Brush your tongue too.

The only true way to know if you're in ketosis is to use a urine dipstick. Ketosis causes fruity breath which could taste funny. The tooth funk is just as GYTMoon said, the lack of chewed food scrubbing against the teeth.

Hi

About 5 days after my surgery I developed a really bad taste in my mouth with a film over my tongue. I went back to the doctors and they said it was thrush from the surgery. It is very common after surgery. I hated it it was a terrible taste and I hated the feel of it on my tongue. I went to the chemist and got some over the counter stuff for it and it cleared up in about 3 days after that. Go to the chemist they will be able to tell just by looking at it if it is thrush and you can get some stuff for it and it will be cleared up pretty quickly compared to if you just let it run its course.

Good Luck

Hi

About 5 days after my surgery I developed a really bad taste in my mouth with a film over my tongue. I went back to the doctors and they said it was thrush from the surgery.

As it happened I had an appointment for a teeth cleaning during the liquid phase and I asked the hygenist if I had thrush and she said no. So I guess it really depends huh? As soon as i started eating solids it went right away.
