Weight Goals

Recommended Posts

I have a question about weight goals.

My surgeon has never mentioned it to me at all. Is this something everyone is coming up with on their own, or is this something your doctor/surgeon is letting you know?

Just wondering if I am missing out on something.. and with surgery only 3 days away I am sort of double and triple checking things. :frown:

Thanks!

My doctor said my ideal weight was 125, I am shooting for 150 and will reevaluate myself at that time.

I am focusing my effort on body composition (fat % vs lean body weight and the iDEXA scan information), general health and something south of 200!

My surgeon hasn't talked to me at all about setting a goal weight. Maybe he will when I go on Monday.

Anyway, these are the factors I'm taking into consideration right now.

The last time I felt really good I weighed around 220. I know that is still way overweight, so I want to go lower than that for sure!

According to BMI, I should weigh somewhere around 130, but from here, I just can't see myself there. Maybe that will come in time.

For now, I want to focus on something I feel is attainable, and that is 199. I want to be under 200 and then I'll reevaluate.

That is the thought process behind the weight goal in my ticker, anyway...

I can totally relate to this. I have been morbidly obese for so long it is VERY hard for me to see myself at the "normal" weight range I should be at.

SOOO my goal is to weight less than 200 lbs. So I set my first goal at 199, and will be completely ecstatic about that weight ! I have an OMG goal as well though, and that is to lose a total of 100 lbs.

I am not so hung up on my final weight, I just want to be healthier and fit into any restaurant booth, on any amusement park ride, etc.!!

my dr and i did not discuss a goal weight...im glad too because his goal weight for me might not be what i want for myself. someone has in their siggy that their goal weight is not a number but a feeling. after im under 200lbs i'll see what that feel likes. i haven't been there in years.

During my initial consult, I was given a questionaire about weight gain, eating habits and goals. I set my goal at 200lbs and the PA said my goal was very conservative. Their goal weight for me is 177lbs...so, I decrease my goal to 190lbs...still conservative, I guess but, I'd be darn happy with it. They do use a formula to come up with your goal weight.

I also answered a questionnaire that asked for my weight goal. My surgeon and nutritionist have not suggested one to me though. I've set several small goals for myself and will revise them if needed as I lose. My ultimate goal is 140lbs which is in the middle of my healthy weight range; but, if I am healthy and feel great at a heavier weight, that goal will change, too!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
