Hi! I'm New To This Whole Thing!

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Kate and I'm JUST new to this ENTIRE lap-band process. It's something that I've been thinking about for a long time and today I finally took the steps towards getting the ball rolling. I had done a few things already, but, today I called the office and got things moving towards getting my first appointments made. I should start in August sometime, waiting to hear when. They said that in order to fulfill my insurance requirements, I need to do a 4 month program and then they'd submit the paperwork for surgery. If all goes well, I'll be looking at surgery in December! I can't wait! Wish me luck! I'm curious to see what people that have had this done have to say about it. This is the forum I need to keep me going!

It sounds like we are in the same boat, Kate. I went to the seminar on Tuesday and because I'm a self pay, I was able to be scheduled for 7/21. When the ball starts rolling, it really goes. :tongue_smilie:

Hi, Kate I just joined this forum today. I started looking into Lapband about a week ago. I'm scheduled to go to an Open House with the doctor on 7/20 and then hope to be able to schedule surgery for August or September as I'm doing it self paid. I was really gald to find this forum.

Thanks for the welcome! I really wish that I could do it sooner, but, I have to wait for the required 4 months in order to fulfill the insurance requirement! I wish I could afford to go self pay! Then I could do it and be done with it! I'm excited about this journey though!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
