I decided at the beginning of this year, my 40th alive, that THIS was going to be the year that I did something about my weight.  To this day, I can remember being in Sears at age 11 buying new school clothes and being forced to go over to the section that actually had signs that said "Chubby Sizes".  I remember praying that noone from school would come in and see me.  I lost weight during my High School years, mainly due to poor diet or not eating at all.   I graduated HS in 1986 and weighed 125 lbs.  Yet, I've been over 200 lbs since 1989.   What happened?  One bad decision led to another, which always led to another, and 3 years later I was at least 75 lbs overweight, depressed and miserable.  Over the last 20 years, I've tried various diets - some healthy, some not so healthy and some just plain stupid!  I would have short term success, always failing in the end, gaining the lost weight back and usually some more on top of that.  Most people reading this already know the drill and know how you feel about yourself after "failing at another diet".

My brother in law had RNY Gastric Bypass in 2007 and I knew that it wasn't personally a good option for me, but didn't know that anything else was out there.  A customer of mine (we own a tanning salon) came in one day and I hadn't seen her in a few months and I almost didn't recognize her - I had to look about 3 times to figure out who she was.  She was about 4-5 months post op and looked absolutely fantastic.  I asked her what she had been doing and she was very forthcoming about being banded by Dr. Wellborn.  It was what I saw in her eyes that sold me.  She was alive inside and it radiated outwards.  I wanted some of that!!

After a lot of thinking, reading, praying and talking - I made the decision it was going to happen.  I didn't know how I was going to pay for it (insurance won't cover any of it), but Lap Band surgery was in my future.  Let me also say this - I thank God every day for my husband.  He is loving, caring and so supportive of me - fat or not.  He's never known me below 200 lbs and has loved me as if I were 120 lbs.  He is by far my biggest cheerleader!  He is not overweight, by the way.  My biggest regret?  That my mom, who passed away in 2005, never got to see me as a healthy weighted adult.  But I know she's looking down on me, approvingly and proud of my decision.

Hubby and I went to a free seminar, put on by Dr. Wellborn and his staff on 7/7/09 and today I scheduled my surgery for 7/21/09.  I cannot wait to start my new life.  Maybe life does start at 40?!?
