well, as the title says im 7 weeks pregnant, and feeling rubbish, i feel nauseaus all day, am a little bit sick in the morning, but the feeling sick all day is horrible.

Im trying to eat little and often, but iam really struggling to eat, i can hardly eat meat, or bread, or fish etc, it just gets stuck.

Iam so miserable and wish i had never gotten my band, i dont know if its just the morning (all day) sickness or if my band has gotten tight, i dont know if i should get an unfill??

I was self-pay for my band, and basically got the band, and thats it was discharged, i dont see a dr reguarly or anything, any help would really be appreciated.

A lot of women when they get pregnant need to get unfilled...it helps you get all the nutrients the baby and your body need. It also helps with the morning sickness...sounds to me like you're one of the ones that needs an unfill. Good luck!

Hello! Congrats on becoming pregnant! Just wanted to give my situation... I have been banded for years, and have gone up and down in weight. I became pregnant last October and went 35 weeks before I faced the music and got unfilled. Until then, I had gained no weight with the pregnancy, and was vomiting every day to every other day. The band definitely was in high gear, working better than ever until then. It is scary to not have the fill because now I can eat whatever and whenever I want. I know now the difference in having the band, as it had been so long since I could just eat. In the two weeks since being unfilled I have gained the fifteen pounds the doctor wanted. My guilt is going both ways... feeling bad to maybe have deprived the baby of proper nutrition, and feeling bad because I am now gaining so quickly. It is such a mental struggle!

Good luck with your decisions.

Sunshine

you have to keep in mind that the pregnancy is not permanent. Right now, your priority has to be the baby. There will be a time when you can focus on your weight loss again. I am 26 weeks pregnant and got unfilled at the beginning of pregnancy and I still feel tightness in my band as the baby gets bigger. I have gained 21 pounds so far and yes I am freaking out but I know that once the baby is born and I get refilled, I get my butt back in gear and have the rest of my life to lose the weight. Hope this helps.

I was around 8 weeks when I got a slight unfill. I was just like you, sick all the time and couldn't get much in. It was actually my husband who made me get the unfill, because I was so scared of gaining weight. I won't lie, every pouns I gain is emotionally painful, but knowing I get tighten that bad boy up at the end, and the weight is all with a good purpose, makes me feel better. I'm not 27 weeks and have gained 23 pounds. More than I wanted, but I'm eating nutrients that help the little one.

Please don't feel guilty for depriving your baby. The baby will rob mom of everything that he/she needs. That means, if you weren't consuming enough Calcium (for example) the baby will not hesitate to take it from your body (i.e. your bones).

Also, it is well documented that you only need an additional 300 calories/day to grow a baby and that need exists mainly in the 3rd trimester.

Finally, excess weight and too fast weight gain is stressful to both mom and baby. I think you made a good decision for yourself and your baby.

IMHO

That's interesting. I guess this just shows how both the band and pregnancy can be so different for different people. I'm not having that problem at all. I got a huge fill a couple months before I got pregnant (I am now 6 weeks) and I feel like I can eat just about anything in any amount. My appetite has really really kicked in. I assumed I'd have to be unfilled once I got pregnant, but honestly, unless something changes, I don't think I'll need to because I'm eating like a horse.

Generally, I can only go 2-3 hours without food. I haven't had any real nausea (maybe a little in the mid morning or early afternoon).

I would not hesitate to get an unfil if I felt like I couldn't get adequate food in. You can always resume weightloss after the baby (thank God for the Lap Band!).

I got a fill before I found out I was pregnant and now when I eat my stomach hurts! It feels like a lot of pressure and I can feel it kind of sloshing around and it grumbles. Am I too tight? Should I get an unfill? It sucks!

My surgeon unfilled me 1/2 way 3 weeks ago when i was about 4-5 weeks along. Now I am almost 8 weeks and I can eat everything and I do! I was having really bad heartburn as a result of the band/pregnancy combo and now it is basically gone. I am pretty nauseas but I find that eating keeps that at bay. I have been at goal for about a year and now I have gained over 5lbs in the past 3 weeks! Yikes.

I'm a little over 7 weeks now. Still no unfill. I went from about 210 to 199.6 :crying: since my fill a few weeks ago. Don't worry about that 5 pounds...I mean you do have a baby growin in you :) You just have to make sure you keep your gaining under control and eat healthy :frown: Good luck!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
