Hey Patty! Welcome to LBT! I was also banded 8/25. My 1st fill is 10/8. I don't think it's too much to be nervous about - hey we made it through surgery, right? :)

Welcome, hope you find it helpful and supportive here. As for being concerned about your first fill, the procedure itself is no big deal. If you're having it done in the docs office without fluro then he will find your port, insert a serious needle and put in a certain amount of saline. Then he will have you swallow some Water to see how it goes down. If you are uncomfortable, let him know, he'll remove a little more and on and on until you feel that you are comfortable. By the way, he doesn't remove the needle until he is satisfied with the fill, it's not like you're getting stuck over and over.

If you're having it done with fluro, then the doctor will find the port, insert saline and then give you barium to swallow, which they will watch on a special screen to make sure that the Fluid is getting through sufficiently.

Well, that's about it for fills. Just don't become overly anxious about wanting to lose the weight and think, the tighter the restriction the better it will be. Wrong!!!!!

That's not the way it works and believe me you'll end up in serious pain if the fill is too tight.

Another thing, aren't you glad you asked this question, when you get a fill, the first time you try to eat something, take it slow and easy until you judge how you will handle the restriction. Even drinking Water to quickly can cause a problem if you are gulping it without giving it time to pass through completely. Remember, the pouch is small.

Hope that answers your question. Again welcome to the boards and feel free to pm me if you have any other questions, otherwise, I'll just see you on the boards.

Cindy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
