How many carbs can you have on the low carb pre-op diet?

I will have to be on a 2 week low carb pre-op diet before my surgery. I didn't even think to ask how many carbs were low carbs. I was wondering cause almost every veggie has carbs in it. Do I have to eat only meat? I know I should ask my surgeon. I will when I get my surgery date. I was just wondering if anyone else had to do this. I am just thankful I don't have to do 2 full weeks of a liquid diet. I think I might do that some what. Maybe liquids for breakfast and lunch then MEAT for dinner. LOL Anyway, if anyone know I would appreciate the reply....... Jennifer

Jennifer, it's hard to say because different docs have different policies. Just call the office and ask what the total number of allowable carbs / day is.

Again agree with Plain....my preop diet listed what I was to have, and I didn't count calories/carbs/etc, just did what I was supposed to!

Besides each person has a different threshold for how many carbs are "too many" etc. So you're right to check w/your doc!

My pre-op instructions said I could have 40g of carbs per day, and I didnt realize how hard that was going to be! But I do agree just give your dr. or his nurse a call and they will steer you in the right direction! Good Luck!!

oh gee I'm susposed to only have 30 carbs a day.
