Venting, Ranting, Raving

Hi Everyone,

I just need to vent a bit. This morning I woke up after about only two hours of sleep and had a practical meltdown. I haven't been having the best of recoveries. I had a bad reaction to the anethesia that left me nauseas beyond even the medication and dry heaving for the next five days. I finally had a day without a heave on Monday, but the nausea hasn't gone away. Absolutely EVERYTHING I put in my mouth makes me want to gag. I didn't get fat from eating sweets so all the Protein Shakes are making me sick and I can't seem to get the taste of them out of my mouth no matter what I eat. To top is all off I have nothing but liquid coming out of places of my body liquid isn't supposed to come out of. Then there is the tighness in my chest and the lump in my throat, which the dr. tells me is me feeling the band and once the swelling goes down I hsouldn't feel that anymore. I vascilate between being hungry and wanting to gag at the thought of anything going in my mouth.

I just had a meltdown. I started hating what I had done to myself. I felt like such a failure for not being able to lose weight without this. I lashed out at the person who had been taking care of me since day one. I lashed out at my band angel from my doctor's group. If I could have I would have ripped the entire device out of my body this morning. Everyone keeps telling me, week three you will start to feel better, but here I am at day 9 and the light at the end of the tunnel is DIM DIM DIM!!!!

Hi there! I know whatever i can say to you can be easier said than done! I was banded on April 9th and i had a horrible time in recovery and was actually admitted to the hospital over night. The next couple of days i had changed my Protein Drink about 3-4 times, finally i found one that i like its made just for women and not chalky nor does it leave that nasty taste! Than i got out of that stage and went into solids and thought i had turned in to a bulimic person and throwing up after everything i ate! But trust me it gets better and i think to myself everyday i am so happy that i did this for MYSELf! You say you have failed, actually if you have failed you would not have taken this step to better your health and life! Girl, just think to yourself i can do this!!

I understand what you're going through. I was banded 6 days ago and had complications as well. The Dr. said a stitch bled into my stomach and caused a hematoma (filling up the space in my esophagus that Water would be going through), and also had severe swelling to the point that it closed off points of my esophagus. I had gas, and was hiccupping and burping (ouch!). I had to be admitted back into the hospital and connected to an IV for five days until the swelling and hematoma subsided. Last night, I got stuck in the recliner and couldn't get out without pulling and stretching my incision and abs where the port was attached. I started to get teary eyed and wondered what I had done to myself?? I cut myself up for this?? I feel ashamed that I couldn't lose weight on my own, resorted to this, and then feel so much pain right now. I just snoop around these pages to remember why I did this in the first place and try to remember that IT WILL GET BETTER- When I'm down to my goal weight, I'll look back on this last week and feel grateful for the gift I have given myself. It's just getting there.....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
