Titanium Staples? and brief intro

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am new here, I have decided I want a sleeve, now I just have to figure out where/how to get it.

I have United Health Care and they cover WLS, but I haven't checked into if they cover the sleeve, but I doubt it.

Are the doctors usually using titanium staples for this procedure? What about Dr. Aceves?

I lost 60 lbs dieting, but I couldn't stand feeling starved all the time. I weigh in about 280 these days, and I would love to drop below the 200 mark. I really think the sleeve is for me. So that's my brief intro, I look forward to getting to know you all.

As far as I know all doctors use titanium, don't they Elisabeth?

I want to say that UHC does cover the sleeve but I can't find the stupid link. I can find Aetna and Cigna but not UHC. I'm about 60% sure they do.

If I can find the link I'll post it.

Welcome. Yes, titanium staples are the standard of care for all surgeons. You'll find a lot of useful info. here and made a good choice in WLS options.

I could not tell if you wanted titanium staples or were worried about having them.

My husband has had titanium plates in his back since 2000 with no problems. He doesn't even set off metal detectors.

Super. About 5 years ago my brother had a small repair made to his lung for a congenital defect that eventually made this little hole, and he had to specifically request titanium staples. (for those that don;t know, with titanium you can still have an MRI) So I wanted to know if I needed to stress about that in my questions.

Fun fact about myself- my wedding band is titanium (so is hubby's)

WASa, I would be grateful if you knew where to look about United Healthcare and the VSG.

You guys are so helpful! Thanks for the welcome.

They used to. But they have a new guy in charge and now they don't. At least that's the case in CA.

I have a bunch of friends who got sleeves through them and then a bunch more that were subsequently denied because the surgery is "experimental." Morons.

Welcome, you'll find everyone here is awesome - helpful, funny.

You're luck your UHC covers WLS - mine does not, my employer has an exception on the policy for WLS of any kind.

So I am a self pay and I am going with the sleeve -- especially as the days before my surgery approach (June 12th) and I read more and more about people having problems with the band.

Good luck -- I hope UHC will cover it for you.

UHC covers whatever your company decided to pay coverage for. I had UHC but my company didnt elect to pay for that WLS coverage. DAHHHH so I ended up private pay.

I have UHC also and they first do not cover the surgery as we have less than 60 participants as I work for a small company. If we did hae 60 participants we would need to elect to coer WLS. Not sure why any insurance company would not coer as it eliminates so many health issues. They'll figure it out one day!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
