Weight Question?

Recommended Posts

What was you weight/BMI at your first consult, and then what was your weight/BMI on surgery day?

I have been to my first consult and my surgeon does not require a pre op diet but does encourage one. Just looking for a little motivation to do it on my own steam and not because I have to. ;)

I was only 3 weeks from consult to surgery, so mine was about the same. My surgeon didn't require a preop diet, so I actually gained a few lbs from consult to the day before surgery. My BMI was 50 the day of and is 36 now. Oh, and even though I didn't diet, I did practice taking smaller bites and chewing my food well. I also stopped drinking with my meals and cut out all carbonated drinks prior to surgery. It really helped.

I was 328 at consut 10/08 I was 288 then day before surgery 4/9/09 and 282 day of surgery (cleanse type of thing) I'm at 269 now. My surgeon recommended I do a program called The Rotation Diet didn't do to well on that in 2/09 I started the 50 Million Pound Challenge and lost very well on it prior to surgery. As far as the couple weeks before surgery I looked at what a lot of people getting surgery around the same time as me were doing looked like high Protein, low carb so I did that a little before my surgery then 3 days before my surgery clear surgar free liquids only by direction of doc and hospital.

Consult weight -- 284/42.2

Surgery weight -- 269/38.3

Current weight -- 229/(haven't checked it yet)

My pre-op diet was 2 Protein shakes and 2 meals consisting of 3 oz of lean Protein and steamed or raw veggies each. It wasn't heinous by any means and I didn't really have a problem sticking to it. Try to stop drinking with your meals, take small bites and chewing well.... habits you're going to need in the near future. I also gave up diet coke in early January (surgery on 2/10).

I was 465lbs for my first consult with a bmi of 64.8, after a 6-month insurance waiting period I was 418lbs with bmi 58.3. Now three months out I am down to 374 (3 weeks ago, probably more now ;)) and bmi 52.2! It is so worth getting use to your new lifestyle eating habit prior to surgery. Good luck!

Thank you so much for all the responses. Wow, you all did so well pre op!

I have definitely been more mindful of my bites and chewing....it is harder than I had imagined!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
