Can any one tell me if a Lap Band performed by a licensed RN is legal to bill incident to?

I don't really understand the question. What type of RN? A nurse practitioner? And do you mean will insurance cover it? THat depends on the requirements of your insurance.

But generally yes RN's are legally able to do fills, although I'd assume they'd need training in the procedure.

RN's can do fills and their time can be billed, but I am not sure about the exact requirements. I am usually filled by an RN at my band doctors office.

Ok let me lay this one on you. There have been times to where the Nurse did give me a fill on several ocassions and guess what folks I was billed not only my Dr. Co-Payment of 50.00 but my insurance compamy was billed by the hospital for its supplies and for the nurse. Oh how I wish my Internal Medicine Dr. wpould learn this procedure so I could just go to her and get it done.

I know Medical Assistants (not Physician's Assistants) in Washington State can perform the fills. It is commonly done on the west-side. I think in WA you can perform an injection if you have as little as the phlebo certification. I wonder how you'd find out...

I think if we all protested and not let anyone else but the dr do our fills ( since they are charging us as if the dr has actually performed the procedure.) then the medical assitants and the paramedics will not have any anyone to practice on. i can see letting a nurse practioner do it but not a rn who has not had the proper credentials. As an RN I think it is dabgerous to let anyone who is not the dr do the fills.

My surgeon does my fills, but that's because I am a hard stick. My surgeon has his first assist RN, who assists him in the OR, trained to do the fills and they hold a fill clinic once or twice a month where she does them. I work in the nurse staffing industry and I know that a First Assist RN is a higher level certification/licensure then a regular RN. His first assist couldn't hit my port, that is why he does mine, he finds the port first time every time...
