Moments of Weakness/Relapse

Recommended Posts

I must admit, I am an icecreamaholic. I eat it every night, usually while on this site. But if you keep lossing, I don't see where a little treat after eating good all day will hurt. Except that day of Checkers chicken nuggets and fries, opps--did I mention the ice cream cake and chips w/ dip at the party. Nah, not important.

We went to eat at Makotos Saturday night (its a japanese steak house where they cook in front of you). What a waste of money. I spent $25 for steak and lobster. I literally was able to eat about 4 bites of the salad, a couple veggies and 1/2 the lobster tail. Leftovers were quite yummy the next day though. I did real good and didn't touch the rice at dinner, but the following day=yum, yum, yum. Forget the 4oz, it must have been atleast double that with all the rice I downed. Then the ice cream I had later. Bad, bad girl--I know.

Like Heather, I've turned to ice cream as my comfort food, before banding, I rarely ate ice cream, last night, strawberry, today, a vanilla cone from sonic, bad, bad, girl I am.

I won't even mention the three baskets of chips I shared tonight at Chilis, of couse, I eat chit like that and don't pb or slime, but let me eat something healthy like broccoli or a Protein bar, get a cup.

Well, tonight I made homeade lasagne...it turned out sooooo good. I did have one small peice with a side salad. I don't feel too bad, because that is a huge improvement over what I had done in the past.

Boy Im sure glad im not alone. After my confession have been so trying to get back on track. have been somewhat successful. But it has given me time to do some soul searching and realize i was falling back into my usual pattern and no eating this way has not made me feel very good. and i dont mean emotionally acutally physical-go figure. i never recognized it before. so tomorrow with the sun i will begin again and yes i probably will from time to time have something not on the list but i so done with beating myself up and giving up or into the old thoughts of "i screwed up so just forget it". that was always one of my biggest down falls. Getting my first fill ( so looking forward to it!!) will support me. i just cant wait. I realize that this isnt a magic band but in my mind it is the tool that will get me there. You all are so right. thanks for you honesty.

Yesterday I accidentally ended up at Baskin Robins buying a pint of half one flavor and half another. The guy screwed up and made two individual pints instead. Hmm, should I tell him I only ordered one pint, or should I leave it in fate's hands? I went with fate and purchased both pints with no question. Is it me, or is "fate" only one letter away from FAT?

It's the dirty digit of destiny, DeLarla. I'm an ice cream fanatic, too. I know it's keeping me from losing more weight, and I'm slowly trying to climb down from the hot-fudge mountain now that September is here. . . but last night I went to a local Coldstone with friends and had Sweet Cream with Oreos and Heath Bars. If you don't have Coldstone in your area and you have a sweet tooth, pray that a franchise won't open near you! It is delicious and deadly!

Here's my (rationalizing) take on the ice cream monster. I got banded so that I could eat like a semi-normal person instead of wavering between diets and binges. So having smallish servings of ice cream on a, ahem, regular basis is kinda sorta in my plan.

Well it was White castle for lunch today. Certainly not a nutritious lunch. I can almost garantee there was no nutritional value at all.

I use to eat 7 cheesburgers and a sac of onion rings with a 44 soda.

OMG - today cause I was craving it so bad - I had 2 cheeseburgers no soda and no rings. I need to go on the web site to find the calorie count.

OK back from web site - not a bad meltdown 320 calories - well within the limits of lunch.

I'm getting better at being bad.

My day started with the old, "I'll quit using Creme Brulee' Coffemate once the container is gone." It segued into an e-mail from the boss annoucing, "frosted Cookies and a rack of cheesecake in the fridge." I tossed it back with a real CocaCola. By lunch I was disgusted so I picked at some pineapple. Funny how I couldn't finish the tiny can. Then the Otis Spunkmeyer lady showed up with hot-out-of-the-oven Cookies.

I'm very unhappy right now. And I feel gross.

I'm getting better at being bad.

THAT is how you should be thinking. When I have a horrible day, I just try and think back to what it would have been preband. Not that it's not still "bad", but it could be WAY worse.

Recently I've just had this horrible head hunger monster attacking me, so I bought some ready made bagged salads, and told myself I can have as much of that as I want. Even with some dressing. One does not have to feel guilty for eating two bowls of salad right?

Of course, add on top of that, that my boyfriend bought the BIG bag of M&M's to keep in the fridge. Fortunately I kept to about a serving at a time... but that's not to say I didn't have more than one serving in a day. Fortunately they are all gone. I do okay when he buys the little bags, but the store he went to didn't have the little bags, so he got the big one. (And to top it all off, he's a bean pole). Fortunately, he's good to me and keeps his ice cream out of the house for the most part.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
