Hi all, this is my first post. As part of my pre-op tests I recently had a Bravo Ph Study where they attached a monitor to my esophogus. Post EGD I noticed being able to feel the little device everytime I swallowed, and took a breath. It was very strange to feel all of these "natural" processes. Thankfully the monitor falls off after several days.

With that, I'm worried that I will have gone through all these tests and then the procedure, and then be able to never get used to it. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you notice that you feel the band, not just the restriction, but the actual band being inside of you?

My surgeon is Dr. McMahon in Seattle, but he came from North Carolina and has good reviews. So far I'm very impressed by him, but not so much with some of his office staff.

Most all of the sensations you feel will be from the restriction and restriction sensations are mainly felt in the esophagus (sternum to throat).

Your stomach is a muscle and it does not have nerves that allow you to actually feel the band around it.

You may also have some sensations from the port, especially in the beginning. Most of the healing discomfort comes from the port area. You will be able to feel the port with your fingers and sometimes I feel it shifting or even pulling when I am using certain ab muscles.

There really is no reason why you will not be able to adjust. You do have to re-learn how to eat or you will suffer the consequences but you stick with it and eventually it becomes second nature.

I can't feel my band at all, but that desn't mean it wasn't hard to get used to, it was. But you will get used to it and you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Having major sleep apnia (natural restriction based of tounge) and generally sensitive throat I was concerned as well.

Long story short..you can not feel the Band. What you CAN feel is if you forget to chew and swallow a lump of something you can feel it trying to get through..this has happened 4 times to me. Totally my own fault! I didnt follow the rules. One of the times i threw up. I thought guzzling Water would wash it down..that was a mistake haha.

But this is why i got the darn band..because i want immediate punishment for bad behavior (my eating habits).

You wont feel the band really. If you have too much restriction i heard you can have tourble swallowing but the beauty of the band is it is adjustable!

dont let your FEARS...talk you out of doing something that might improve your life forever.

Worst case (way worst case) is it is easily reversable procedure. go for it!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
