They postponed me because of a sprained ankle :(

Recommended Posts

My surgery was scheduled for May 4th, and I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago. My surgeon told me to day that I have to be using my ankle to it's full potential 2 weeks before surgery. That could be weeks or months! He had me do a leg ultrasound today to rule out any blood clots, but I'm so upset about postponing it :w00t: I was SO ready to have this done. AND, I've been sticking to the 20carbs a day pre-op diet to a T, AND ALL FOR NOTHING! Ugh.

So my tip to you... DON'T sprain your ankle before your surgery!

OMG! I am so sorry to hear that! I keep thinking something is going to come up and I won't be able to get surgery. I know how devastated I would be to hear that. What does a spranged ankle have to do with anything? Are you able to walk on your foot?

Just a quick word of encouragement... don't think of your diet all for nothing. If you have lost weight you are that much closer to your goal. Don't let losing your date get you down and gain it all back. I don't have to do a pre-op diet but am anyway because every pound I lose before surgery is one pound less I will have to lose after surgery.

Get better soon!!!!

That is terrible!! I am so sorry!

I was also thinking about that the other day - what if something happens or you get sick or something. That really stinks.

But... Hallelujah has a good point, it is a good opportunity to get closer to your goal... Even though it still sucks.

WTF? How is a healing sprained ankle relevant?

My main reason for having the surgery on the health side of things was a stuffed ankle, I had terrible chronic heel pain and I most definitely wasnt able to use my ankle to its full potential, heck I couldnt even walk for exercise!

I am very active. It sprained it playing softball. I can walk on it, I just can't run with it right now. The reason the doctor is concerned is because I could develop blood clots in my leg from immobilization. I think that is crud in my case.... I'm on it! ALL DAY. Just because I can't go for a jog right now doesn't mean my blood flow is restricted (the ultrasound even proved there is plenty of blood flowing in it). What really stinks is that if I put it off any longer, it cuts into our vacation time. Plus, with the kids out of school soon, we have a LOT planned. I would rather be slow and recovering in May than in June! And I know that in 2 weeks I'll be almost completely healed anyway. I'm just frustrated right now. This doctor isn't one to take any chances, no matter how slim to none they are.

That really stinks! I have major foot and ankle problems that severly limit my mobility and use a Cam Walker some times when the pain is really bad. It sounds like you are more mobile than I am. It would seem that as long as you can walk around you should be fine.

Wow, I am so sorry. I would be devistated if that happened. But lets look at the positives.....You've been doing a killer job on your pre-op diet - EXCELLENT JOB - this can only be in your favor. It may only be postponed for a few weeks, so hang in there...we are pulling for you!!! Heal well,,,,:rolleyes2:

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
