IM FRAKKING DYING!!!! Its day three and yes, I had a slip up, ok a couple! I had popcorn at the movies watching wolverine. :ack2: Then my son was making pizza and I had 2 slices of pepperoni (just the pepperoni, not the pizza). Today my boss sends me to get him some lunch at this italian sub shop, I wanted to sit at everyones table and eat their food! :tt2:

Im doing the slimfast powder with low fat vanilla soymilk, which I found to be about 30 less calories and less carbs, and it actually tastes alot better than the cans.

Here is our diet that we must follow:

Slimfast Low-Carb*

Water, Crystal Light, Hot Tea, Black Coffee

Sugar-Free Jello, sugar-free popsicles, Broth

Sample Meal for One Day

Breakfast

2 Slimfast Low-Carb*

Lunch

1 Slimfast Low-Carb

Dinner

2 Slimfast Low-Carb

YOU CAN ONLY HAVE THE ITEMS LISTED ABOVE 2 WEEKS BEFORE SURGERY; NO OTHER FOODS ARE ALLOWED!

*This diet is very important to shrink your liver to have a safer surgery! If you do not follow this diet you will not have surgery.

*ONLY 1200 calories per day, 60 grams protein

*DRINK 64 ounces of Water per day (6-8 cups)

*4-5 Slimfast Low-Carb/day.

*If you are Lactose-intolerant you may have Lactose-free milk or Soy Milk instead with Protein Powder (make sure the Protein powder is less than 100 calories per scoop and you can have 5-6 scoops a day)

SO in the morning to get my coffee fix, I been getting Iced coffee and adding the low fat vanilla soy with splenda. (I'm lactose intolerant so its easier on the stomach for me).

I read through everyones posts, and it is motivating, but damn if I don't want a sandwich!

OMG, Foxxy, I am on the all SlimFast diet and I'm dying also! I finally got in touch with the surgeon's nurse and asked her what else I could do. It was then that she said I could have broth and sugarfree Jello. I didn't know ahead of time like you did. I've been drinking the cans and I really want to barf.

I looked up side effects of Slim Fast, and from their own website, SLIM-FAST For Healthcare Professionals, it says: Some individuals may experience transient side effects as a result of weight loss including headache, Constipation, loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and intense hunger. Uh, yeah, I've had all of the above, thank you. Not.

She also told me I can substitute Unjury for the Slim Fast, which is exactly what I am going to do for the next two days. I know it sounds silly that I can't make it another two days, but when you're experiencing all of those side effects above plus nausea to the point of near vomiting, you really have to do something different!!! I was sick on the couch all day on Saturday.

Listen ladies....consider yourselves lucky. I have to do Optifast and ITS DISGUSTING...I swear its like eating chocolate dirt. At least Slimfast isn't that bad tasting. My surgery isn't until 5-14...10 more days and I swear someone is going to get hurt, I'm in a constant state of ANGER ...my poor kids. The upside of it is I went for my preop clearance appointment today and I'm down 3 lbs, not bad for 4 days of pain and suffering.

You may want to try sugarfree popsicles too, they help me especially after "dinner", lol. I get those sugar cravings something fierce and those tend to help alot. I started drinking the slim fast since I met with the nutritionist to get used to it, but lawdy lawdy!!! I was at least able to snack on fruit or something! Well, 11 more days. My surgery is May 15th and I cannot wait!

I've heard that Optifast is pretty bad, too.

Foxxy, I did the same thing as you, started drinking the Slim Fast early to taste the flavors and get used to it. It wasn't bad when I had one a day. But six a day with no other food? ?? :tt2:

Oh, and I bought a lot of it when it was on sale at Walmart.

Everything taste great for one day, but, for me, after four??? No way. I just want to hurl when I think about "eating" time is near. Just the thought of it makes me gag. I have doing Unjury, slim fast low carb and Atkins shakes and today I have been walking around with what looks like a light sunburn all over my body. My doctor thinks I might be a little sensitive to the whey in the Unjury. Gee, really?

and I know that this will be all over soon and that I have to do it so my surgery will be safer, but ugh!!!

I feel for those of you that have to be on a pre-op diet longer than a week.

Good luck to all of us and in two months we will be looking back at our pre-op and laugh. (at least that's what I keep telling myself)

On Whey powder, either Choc. Mint / a cup of frozen strawberries or On Whey Cookies and Cream W/ a cup of frozen strawberries. I rotate this with a Zone bar, Dark Choc. and Dark Choc with Almonds. So it's like 3 shakes and 3 bars per day. Also, i drink my Starbucks coffee with cream, plenty of Water & my Now Vitamins.....pretty boring!

I forgot to say that I blend the scoop of Protein powder, frozen strawberries and about a cup/ cup and a half of Water, buzz it up in my blender on high. it is a tasty shake. :tt2: Zone bars are also tasty and delicious with hot coffee. I did have to bring in the labels stating caloric value and protein value to my pre op appt. Calorie wise, the shakes are like 170 total[with the strawberries} with 24 gms of protein. The Zone bars are 190 with 12 gms of protein. I am not doing to bad with hunger but i do feel a little wired and spacey at times :ack2: I did not want to go with Slimfast since it makes my feet really sore for some reason:blink: plus the on whey powder is much better tasting

My pre-op diet is no more than 40g of carbs per day. No dairy, no fruit. But after that, I can have anything. I've had a lot more meat than I usually do, and cheese, eggs, etc. I definitely had a LOT of carb cravings for the first few days to week, but since then it's seemed to settle down. I do miss my morning Cereal though, still.

I was on a no-chew diet for a year after TMJ surgery, so even the 2 week post-surgery liquid diet won't be a huge deal for me.

Just remember this is temporary, and not forever! It makes it a whole lot easier to stick with it if you keep remembering that. You can do this!!!

Hi everyone,

I am supposed to go on Optifast (3 shakes a day and 3 cups of green veg) for 2 weeks before surgery on May 22nd. I am a complete idiot because I decided to start early (just after Easter) and I am well and truly over it now. I wasn't doing it 100% and would have a couple of meals out a week, but from Thursday I will have to be 100%. I can't wait for this to be over, I am so freaking hungry... :-)

Juniper,

My surgery is at Presby Dallas and my surgeon is Dr. Anderson. I can't believe I will see him in 36 hours!!!!!!!

How about you?

I'm at Presby Dallas, too, but with Hagood. I had a choice between Anderson and Hagood, and I just flipped a coin, pretty much, since they both seem to have the same type of experience and Katz isn't doing the surgery any longer (my first choice).

I hope everything goes well at your appointment! Maybe we can "buddy up" for support!

My doc insists that I use Myocel. You'll find that if you do a quick google search, the only place to buy it is from ONE website, or my doctor's office, of course. There's a reason for this.... IT'S DISGUSTING!

I've done MediFast, and tried all their shakes, Soups, etc., and I've done several other types of Protein Drinks, and this Myocel has got to be the worst tasting. The ONE good thing about it, it does mix well. Unlike some of those MediFast drinks that are always chunky no matter what I do.

I tried some of those Isopure drinks, and the Grape and fruit Punch weren't bad, but the Apple Melon tasted (and looked like) it had some serious chemicals in it!!

I also tried to get a jumpstart on my pre-op diet, but after doing really well Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, I blew it Sunday (not horribly, but still) so I feel like I'm on Day 2 again, and all I want to do is sleep!

Best of luck to us all in making it through this and losing that liver fat!

Oh, why are all these so awful? Seems like a lot of us thought we'd be good and start a little early and now we sorta regret it. (*belch*) I guess anything for too long gets gross.

I went home last night and had some broth and some sugar-free Jello and felt like a new woman! I haven't had a SlimFast in 24 hours and I am much better -- the symptoms I had are all subsiding. There really must be something in the SF that doesn't agree with me! Melissa, sorry to hear about your "sunburn"!

My work is about to have it's monthly birthday party with a huge cake, and I'm dying. So, I'm eating sf jello and a cup of broth. mmmm....

However, the upside of all this, as many of you have also found, is that I am losing some weight! I've lost 4 pounds since last week. That helps me hang on! That and the fact that I'm not puking.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
