Pregnancy later in life

Recommended Posts

I have been banded 3 years. I am considering a tubal ligation revision to have a baby. It would put me roughly at 44 to get pregnant. Has anyone had a successful pregnancy at that age? I am so concerned of down syndrome and other defects.

My grandmother had my uncle at 43. This was in the 70's and he turned out fine....depending on how you define fine.

My mom had me later in life... late 30s. I'm going to be 38 when we start trying to conceive again. My doctor told me that as long as your periods are regurlar that you're still in basicaly the same shape that you were when you were in your more fertile years.

Yes the odds of miscarriage, downs syndrome and (gulp) multiples are higher but the odds are still more in your favor for a healthy pregnancy.

By the way - I have one more thought for you... as I mentioned we're going to TTC into our 40's however we're also homestudy approved for a domestic infant adoption. We've found the process to be very easy, quick and much much cheaper than we thought. If you want to chat please feel free to PM me. Good luck to you.

I had both my babies at age 42 and 43. They are now 5 and 6. Both are healthy and I did not have any major issues. Good luck to you.

I have had 2 children and then a tubal surgery when I was younger. My daughter is almost 17 and my son is 13. We are also considering a reversal with the intentions of having a baby (hopefully) in the next 3-5 years. That would put me around 38.

I worry about the increased risk too. I will just make sure to do my best to be healthy before and during to give our baby the best chances.

I got pregnant at 40 and had a miscarriage. Then, 3 months later I got pregnant again. I was 41 when I had my son. No problems the second time.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
