Okay, so a little birdie - or two - suggested that the weaker exercise enthusiasts come and post...so here I am. Again.

The last few weeks DD and I have been going to the gym in the afternoons. We'd been trying for 6 months to go in the morning, but it wouldn't happen with her - at all. Ever. She's almost 12, so I really didn't like waking her up that early anyway, even if she could be awakened that early. For myself, mornings hate me and would kick my butt if I even thought of getting up without hitting snooze 3, 4, or 23 times.

I didn't think about the afternoon because I'm a dork, I guess and it just didn't occur to me. I guess because it's more crowded in the afternoons and I'm still a little uncomfortable being that sweaty and gross in front of strangers.

I don't remember why, but we went one afternoon and then DD and I went every day that week. As a reward we got our nails done.

I didn't go yesterday because we had to clean up the house for the inspector to come today (we're TRYING to sell our house and have a good contract right now. I never count that until actually closing though, when everything has been signed.) I did take the dogs for a bike ride around the neighborhood, because I'm trying to train them to do that. I took one out, and then the other. I'm trying to work up to having both run along side me, but that's a ways off.

Other than yesterday, DD and I have been steady going Mon-Fri and then we usually ride bikes or do yard work on the weekends.

DD's routine is the bikes. She loves them and can go for miles on them. I hate them because the pedals make my feet sting. I'd rather be on a real bike.

I do 5 minutes on the treadmill at a fast walk for a warm up. Then I alternate 2 minutes running and 1 minute of walking.

The first 2-3 times of running feels really good. Then that last 2 minutes of running feels like HELL. I am sweating, huffy, puffy and breathing HARD. Including the warm up, I do 30 minutes. Part of me feels like an athlete, and the other feels like a blob of fat bouncing up and down.

:) I guess I'm a little of both right now in my journey.

I was lifting weights, and I know I should get back to it, but 1) I really don't know what I'm doing on them, and 2) I feel silly because all the "jocks" use them and I don't feel comfortable walking over to that section. (eGads, I know that sounds stupid, but it is what it is. I'm comfortable on the treadmills, so I stick with that for now.)

Oh, and this week ladies and I started walking at work. It's just a quick, 20 minute walk around the complex, but I feel like it's something to keep me going mentally, even if it doesn't touch the 100 pounds I need to still lose!

Okay, that's my "catch-up". Future posts will be shorter, with just the work out details.

Mornin' all!:)

It's been a while since I posted, and like Glouc, I got the message that we non-Amazon types need to post here as well, so here goes:

I'm pretty regular with my walks - definately in the mornings with DDog, DH and DD (though sometimes DH lets me sleep in).

I also walk 30 minutes a day during my work day - there's a beautiful route that takes me up a hill that originally made me gasp for air and my quads burn, but now I can make it 2/3 up the hill before I have to do the open-mouth-breathing that lets me know I'm working hard. I haven't slowed down, just getting stronger.

I am sensitive about pushing VERY hard, because almost a year ago now (seems like less time than that!), before I was banded, I literally passed out on a treadmill at the gym due to ventricular fibrillation. My heart rate was very elevated and my heart was 'fluttering' instead of beating regularly, so I lost consciousness.

I do tend to back off of my exercise intensity if I feel light-headed, but walking doesn't bring that on as easily as other exercises can.

I also row 2 - 3 times a week - though with the relatively nice spring weather, I'm outside more and I love that! I have a great selection of songs on my iPhone and try to keep up with the beat on them...Flo Rida's 'Right Round' is a butt-kicker!

I walk for longer periods on the weekend with DDog, who's ready to go anytime I put on my sneakers and head for the door...he's a great walking companion!

If you're reading this and you are just getting started, keep going! I started walking 10 - 15 minutes a day until I got stronger, and just kept going. Anything you do every day will get easier for you, so just keep going!

Don't get discouraged if you feel you're not moving as fast as others, or getting stronger at the same rate - one thing I've learned on LBT is that we DON'T all lose it at the same rate, but we're all headed in the right direction (being healthier) so get out there and move!

Back tomorrow with an update (and a shorter post, I promise!) :P

I didn't do anything today. So there. :rolleyes2:

And I think running for 30 min. at a time is great! I've only been able to do that for a month or so. For a while there, I thought I'd never get there. It's a amazing accomplishment, IMO.

:rolleyes2:

Yesterday walked around work for 20 minutes. (Got a sunburn, dang it.)

After work, went to the gym, did my walk/jog for about 30 minutes. I did walk more than run yesterday though. I just couldn't get through it mentally.

After the gym, went home and took the dogs around the block. I take the boxer first, then the lab (2 at a time may prove dangerous.) The lab (a.k.a. Crazy Eyes or Big Dumb One) is the one that is uncontrollable scared of everything, so once around the block took us by a kid on a big wheel, a man blowing leaves and 2 kids on bikes. She was very scared and I nearly got tossed off the bike. But, then I kicked it into a faster pace and she either had to keep up or die, so she chose well. I took her twice around the block and the 2nd time went by smooth sailing.

I figure, I can't run that fast or that far with them and this is great exercise for them, as well as me. So, double bonus.

Yesterday, nothing. Had a driving class for work yesterday. You haven't lived until you have driven a cruiser like you don't have a dime in it.:rolleyes2:

This morning was only a 1.5 mile run in 13:25. I've got my first 5k on Saturday and I don't want to overdo it before that. Tonight will be upper body. Unless, I take a 1/2 day and go golfing today.

Afternoon, People!

Will be going for my lunchtime walk shortly - 30 minutes, including a killer hill, with great music and it's beautiful out today, so I'm raring to go!

Short walk with DDog and DD this morning - raining on us! I don't like walking in a steady rain - I will go, because DDog doesn't have a choice, but it's not my favorite thing.

New milestone today - currently at 230 lbs, a weight I haven't seen in over 10 years.   Can't wait to hit sub-220! Saw the band doc yesterday - lost 11 lbs since I saw him last, so he's happy with my fill level and progress.

Keep on keepin' on, folks!

i vote golf!

congrats ebony!

today - weight training routine minus squats/lunges. my ankle is really swollen and have been told to stay off it 3wks by ortho guy. since that's really not feasible; i'll def limit leg exercises (great my prob area)

Hi I'm new on the post and I need some accountability so that I can become consistant with exercise. Yesterday I walked around the track 5 times and went up and down the bleachers 3 times. Tonight I am going to Water aerobics Yeah!!!!! I am currently 204 lbs and I hope to be under 200 by May 1st, that is my short term goal.

Welcome to da crew!

I'm a walker, too - I use a Bodybugg fitness tracker, and the calorie burn I get from walking exceeds anything else I've done so far (rowing, elliptical). I think it's because I'm moving these pounds around versus using a machine to hold part of my weight LOL

Your goal is definately do-able - congrats for setting a reasonable goal! My next mini-goal is to be at 200 lbs (I'm currently 230) by July, when I will be going to a family reunion in Florida! I think I can do 15 lbs per month in May and June, since I just lost 11 at my last doc's appt (1 month timeframe).

Let's all keep helping each other stay accountable!

2pm went for walk around center. Not sure how far distance-wise it is, but I put on my tennis shoes and we weave around the parking lot at a fast pace for 20 minutes.

About to leave work and head to the gym for my regular jog/walk/pant workout.

Um, okay. So no gym today. Came home and two men were here appraising the house (it's currently on the market). They're supposed to tell us when folks are coming, since DD usually comes home by herself. Luckily today she stayed late at school, and wasn't there yet.

I picked her up we just went to my mothers. I had my work clothes on so going to the gym wasn't really in the picture.

Am home now, gym is still open but we're cooking dinner and doing homework. So, today I just got the work walk in and that's it.

Okay....now go on and tell me about your 5 hour sweat-outs.

Mornin' folks!

Short walk with family and DDog this morning - got up late, but rather than skip it (like I would have done not too long ago) I took a shorter walk.

It's supposed to be gorgeous today, so I'm eagerly anticipating my walk at lunch. The weekend promises more good weather, so a couple of long walks with DDog, plus some gardening. I can't wait - I <heart> Spring!:)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
