MAY 2009 Bandsters - shout out!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all May Bandsters... My surgery is scheduled for Thursday the 14th. Only a couple more days. Tuesday (tomorrow!) night will be the "last real supper " for a while. Wed I have to do a liquid diet, and Thursday surgery. I am excited and nervous both. I got up the nerve to tell a few coworkers about it and they gave me the "Are you sure? That seems so drastic" lines. I am so motivated about having this done. I have been struggling all of my life with weight. My father passed away at 52 from heart disease, I lost both of my Grandfathers when they were in their 60's from heart disease. And a Grandmother at 61 from heart disease. Not such great odds? It is up to me to break this cycle for me and for my family. And I need to do it with all my heart, and want everything on my side to be able to succeed. I am ready. Just wanted to share. Heather

Hi all! I just got home from the hospital, me and my new body part are getting along fine. I have no restriction yet- some soreness and swelling, and 6 entry sights as well. All went well. More later! Beth

Hi everyone,

Was anyone else banded on May 7th. I'm not bouncing back as quickly as I thought. I'm having a really hard time tolerating fluids. I have also had nausea since I came home.

I called my MD and he said just drink clears until I feel better.

I am walking everyday, but I feel very weak and lightheaded, so I only walk when my husband is with me. I have had surgery before, a C/S and hysterectomy and recovered faster. It could be I'm older (51) and I now have rheumatoid arthritis.

I'm trying to keep my spirits up but I feel like crap.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

I was also banded on the 7th. I had a rough first three days, but yesterday I felt alot better. Enough that I overdid and had a rough night. I am just on a liquid diet with lots of Protein Drinks. I can only drink small amounts at a time and it takes a good hour and a half for one 10 oz glass to go down. Haven;t had any nausea unless I drink to fast. But am taking reglean every six hours for nausea. Maybe you just need more Protein in your diet, I know if I don't drink mine I do feel light headed. Best of luck to you, keep in touch and let me know how you are feeling in the next couple of days.

Hey curleytop,

Glad to hear you are feeling better. My MD said no Protein drinks until the nausea subsides. He says they cause bloating and nausea. Each day is a little better. I have to admit I was wondering why the hell I did this on Mothers Day. I was lying down and my son and grandson came to visit. I could see in my three year old grandsons eyes how bad I looked. I am forging on, sips and sips. It took me an hour and a half to drink half a carnation instant Breakfast at dinner time. I made tacos for the family (one of my fav's) and I had no desire to eat. I am thankful that I am not hungry. Today I noticed the swelling in my belly has deflated - another step forward. Just taking one day at a time.

HSJ- good luck on your surgery--- you'll do great! I had mine yesterday-- and I'm sore now, but for a few days that's to be expected--

By next week we'll both be feeling great. Good luck-- See you on the other side!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
