Banded Yesterday - This hurts!

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday (MArch 10th) by Dr. Jayaseelan in Plano, Texas. I was most scared of the IV - bad experience once. The nurse was GREAT. Deadened the area for me first -no pain! I have to say I am a bit surprised how much I hurt last night and today. Dr. Jay told my husband I could probably do a lot of my normal routine today....I think perhaps he has never actually had surgery himself! Shuffling around my house is about all I feel like I can do right now.

Maybe I'm just a wimp!:mad2:

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Robin congrats on your surgery. You are NOT a whimp. I limped around like that for about a week.

More than likely, this time next week, you'll be sailing along, no pain and melting like Frosty in a greenhouse!

Robin. Hey! Congrats! I was banded yesterday too. I agree this hurts. It is mainly the gas in my shoulders and neck. How about you? I feel like if I get a good massage then I would feel better.

My Doc said to take it easy until the weekend and then I should be able to do a little more routine things but can't lift anything. I hope to stay in touch with you so we can share our journey.

I was banded yesterday too. And yes it HURTS a lot!!!!!! From the moment i opened my eyes. Not fun at all, i can only hope it does get better. Burping kills, my shoulders kill... and of cause where they put the band hurts. Trying to drink with out making more burps aint easy. There is no where comfortable to lay, stand of sit. Oh my goodness i think i'm a big wimp too. I just wish i could sleep the next week away... but as it's not possible i guess i will be shufferling and wimpering.

Oh man. I'm having mine on Tuesday. The last round of posts I had read were generally along the lines of, "Whoa, this wasn't as bad as I thought" or "Man, this hardly hurt at all!".

But I just had to push my luck and read more posts, didn't I ? That'll teach me !

Well, I was also banded on the 10th, Laura from W. Mich. here, and I agree that this hurts! I ended up having two hernias which the doctor found and decided to fix then and there. Perhaps some of my pain is from that. I have this big elastic corset type wrap that I have to wear around my middle and that is also uncomfortable. I do think I started to feel a bit better this eve. but all in all, I'd say I'm pretty miserable. It can only get better, right?

I'm glad that there are others out there to share this with. Thanks for the support.

after being re admitted to hospital for the unbearable pain i now have some stronger pain med and finally feel like there just might be light at the end of the tunnel. Sorry if my previous post scared anyone but i wanted it to be the truth. Whatever you do just make sure you go home with good pain meds and you will make it through. Turns out the Dr had grazed my rib and caused a bit of a herorreage, so this was adding to my pain and after yelling at my husband that i want this band out... i'm now willing to keep going. Like i said "marvellous how good pain meds help." I'll keep u posted on my honest journey.

I'm feeling a little better today. I also had scar tissue from previous surgeries that my doctor had to get rid of so I'm assuming that's causing more pain than usual but sleeping was definately better last night. Trace sorry to hear you were having such a tough time. I'm glad the new meds are working.

Sorry that I have been so slow to check back here. I have not felt up for sitting at the computer before today. I want to say thank you SO much for those who took the time to let me know I am not the only one struggling. I was feeling pretty depressed. But I am much more upbeat today and seemed to a turned a corner...not recovered yet, but maybe not regretting it anymore!

For those who were frightened or discouraged by my post, I am sorry! I had some regret the first night home from the hospital with my first child too...but that didn't last!!!:-) I just don't care much for pain, or nausea....I DO believe it will be worth it in the end! I am sorry if my "venting" frightened anyone! Thanks to everyone for such support! I hope you are all doing very well!

Blessings

Robin :-)

I also had mine on March 10th. My doctor told me I could go back to work after 5 days - no way! I am still having pain - where the port is I guess.

finally it is day 10 post op!!!! Horray i have made it through the worst. I am soooo happy to have made it to here.... guess what wouldn't you know the pain is almost all gone. I'm off pain meds mostly and can almost get a good nights sleep. (breath a sigh of relief) I hadn't read about how you can't sleep any where except your back lol. That was not fun. I also haven't really worn a bra for the 10 days cause i only had wire ones and it dug into one of my sores, but thats alright now too.

But i do have one question.....

I am aloud to eat Puree food but.... everything seems to go straight through me :tongue_smilie: not nice. So much so that i would be too scared to eat around others in case i had to make a mad dash to the loo. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if anyone knows how long it last? Really hoping it will go soon

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
