Started my pre-op diet and Im so hungry...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I started my pre-op diet today and I really like the drink but there not very filling By 3:00 today i was so angry b/c i couldn't eat and I was hungry. So I had 5 saltine crackers which was 50 calories, So i think i made a good choise. But I wish the drinks were more filling. I'm allowed 1500 calories a day and Im allowed to eat 1 meal a day and then 4 of those drionks through out the day. I hope It is better tomorrow. I have my surgery in 1 week and i dont wanna a fatty liver so I need to stick to this. Any advice or Words of encouragement would be great!!!

OK first of all I have to say how JEALOUS I am of your pre-op diet! I would've given my eye teeth to have one meal a day (I was on full liquids for 3 days). That said, we've all been through some sort of torturous hunger and it sucks!!! Just try to focus on other things-walking, catching up with old friends on the phone, whatever. Keep your eye on the prize and stick to it! It's important, and it truly is one of the hardest parts. Best of luck!

I am jealous too...I can have up to 3 shakes a day and one "sensible" meal...no snacks...no sugar and I am suppose to drink 64oz of Water a day...slowley, that is really hard to do, so I have not been getting 1 gallon of fluids a day, and so far, except for the water the other is not that bad, although I have been a little cranky, but I have not noticed realy hunger pains...I'm sure they will come. Oh the nutritionist (skinny b$%&h)lol told me to drink more water if I got really hungry.

I'm so jealous of you all!! I started my liquid diet 6 days ago and have to do it for 14 days. The only food I can have at all is sugar free Jello (gross) fat free broth, and sugar free posicles. I have 6 Protein Shakes a day and lots of Water. I am HUNGRY!!! Suregey date 3/5 then 2 weeks post of same diet. No food for 4 weeks. CRAZY!!! But, I have already lost 7 lbs.

I am on my 5th day so far of liquid diet, I was supposed to start at least 2 weeks prior to surgery date. my nutritionist basically just allowed me to drink up to 5 slim fasts a day (Breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 in between) or a number of other types of drinks. It did take a bit of begging but I did manage to convince her to let me eat at least 4 oz a chicken in place of a can.

I tried to ween myself into this thing since the beginning of the month, slowly replacing 1 meal at a time with a slim fast every week. Surprisingly it has not been "that" bad. The hunger pains are still there (the reason I am here and not sleeping) but eventually they seem to fade away.

wish you luck guys. hopefully none of us goes insane during this small trial and that evil cheeseburger staring at me in the closet fades away. :)

Hi fellow pre-opsters,

I am in my 3rd day and feel hungry too.

I cannot have any real food. I can do 1/2 cup

of cottage cheese up to no more than 3 time/day.

I get the no sugar added fudgsicles, sugar free

popsicles and Jello. I can have real jello at 1/2 cup

a time, again 3x day.

I have been drinking Unjury chicken Soup Protein Drinks

and nectar Sweets with skim milk. I made sugar free

pudding today and had it twice.

I am daydreaming of a ribeye steak or even a real piece

of any kind of meat. I can have juices and broths,

but broth is just plain stupid, the Protein chicken soup is somewhat feeling, but broth sucks.

I do the pre-op hospital tests today at 1PM and see the

surgeon one more time before surgery on March 5th.

I have been literally sitting on my hands to keep from

going insane with picking up food I cannot eat.

Well, today will just have to be a better day.

i am on day three of my 14 day full liquid pre op diet (although last night i cheated and had a piece of chicken) and today i feel much better. yesterday i thought i was going to pass out and was shaking from hunger, and today i really feel pretty ok. i think the difference is that when i got to my office this morning i opened a can of Protein shake and just started sipping from it, the can lasted a few hours. now i'm on can #2 doing the same thing and am taking a sip every ten minutes or so. slow and steady really seems to be keeping the hunger at bay.

hope that helps

I have been on pre op diet,, 3 shakes, one small meal for 10 days,, the first five were brutal and I was weak and tired,, got sick at the gym and had to go home twice,, I switched from the slim fast to the EAS advant and it much better.. regardless of the no food, I have only lost 1 pound,,, I am very frustrated with this and hope its just my body reacting to the starve mode.. I'm surprised that none of you mentioned raw vegetables, it is one of the things I am allowed,, have had a mixed green salad with 1 tsp olive oil just to satisfy the chewing sensation in the afternoon. Also eating sugar free pops at night for a snack. My pants are looser,, but that won't get me to surgery if I gain a lb!!

back to the gym yesterday, hope it helps me..

surgery 3/3,, can't wait for it to come,, starting to get anxious..

Eartha-

Are you getting banded at Tallgrass in Topeka? I was banded there on January 14th and had my first fill yesterday.

Trust me, the pre op diet is the WORST part of the whole journey. Keep on trucking :)

I actually had a salad for lunch with a tablespoon of fat free dressing and feel decadent! I also was at the GP this morning for pre-surgical clearance and I weighed myself, and I have lost 8 pounds in the last three days (I weighed myself at pre-op testing on Monday). Some of that weight was newly gained in my pre-band eating fest but not all.

Today makes day 8 for me in the diet. So far only had 1 really bad night but the rest of the times seems pretty passive. yesterday I had a slim fast for Breakfast, I ran out of slim fast so I bought some chicken Soup from the deli for lunch. I tried to pull out the fat from the top and had just a small portion. later for dinner i just ate a small piece of steamed chicken (3 oz). I was still a tad hungry later that night so I popped open a sugar free Jello. Somehow this liquid diet seems to be getting a bit more solid for me lol. I never did ask the nutritionist if i could eat the chicken more than once a day. The only thing I am disliking for now is the feeling of being weak due to not consuming as much as I am used to. Had a strong dizzy spell earlier as well.

I've also substituted light progresso Soup for a shake, I even pureed it and drank it.. It wasn't bad and is one of the things I can eat after surgery. It had more Protein, less fat and carbs then the shake too!

sipping is my goal this week, drinking the shakes too fast defeats the purpose as I'm sure you all know. also back to conscious chewing. I have been going to the gym, but had such joint pain I was getting discouraged so I started Water aerobics there,, it is fabulous and there are lots of fluffly ladies to chat with, and some older ladies who have lost a lot of weight and are trying to keep it off.. I have found myself telling people about my surgery over the last week, I think it will make me feel more accountable for my actions if others are looking for me to succeed...

i am set to be banded on march 23, and dont have to start my pre-op fasting until march 13th, but since i know that, i have already replaced one meal with a shake. i have a Protein Shake for b-fast, i mix about 8 oz with about 16 oz of ice and blend it...it makes a milkshake consistancy, i eat it with a spoon while i am at my desk working and it lasts for a few hours. the ice keeps it cold and it seems like it is more. keep it slow. that is what you will have to doa after you are banded so start the little stuff now to condition your habits. i have 6 yr old, and he knows i am doing this to have my 'fat-weight surgery' and he share with me, but most importantly when i look at him i know I NEED to do this....no matter what. look at your little one and think how improved your life will be once you wrap your will power around this. trust me it will all be worth it once the band is on....good luck

I am on day three of the pre-op liquids. I have two weeks of this with no real food AT ALL! I was very tired last night, so, I've already taken 42 grams of Protein from the 3 ounce 'bullet'!! I eat Jello, sugar free pudding and drink shakes. I am allowed the Campell's Soup at Hand and the Healthy Request. They help. I have one for lunch and one for dinner! Wowee..zowee! It's challenging, but for some reason, I'm down 6.5 pounds already. I'm sure a lot of Fluid, but, it at least makes me remember why I'm doing this. It's not fun, but I think of the rewards down the road...new beginning, better living! I enjoy all of your 'shares' on here! Thanks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
