hahahah. Are you delusional? Check your facts. This is not even CLOSE to socialism. And everything tanked under Bush.

A Final Weekend of Whoppers? | FactCheck.org

Despite the fact that the federal health insurance plan (a.k.a. the “public option”) is now gone from the bill, Republicans and conservative groups have continued to claim that the bill institutes a system like the one in the United Kingdom, or Canada, or otherwise amounts to a government takeover. It doesn’t. A pure government-run system was never among the leading Democratic proposals, much to the chagrin of single-payer advocates. Instead, the bill builds on our current system of private insurance, and in fact, drums up more business for private companies by mandating that individuals buy coverage and giving many subsidies to do so. There would be increased government regulation of the insurance industry, however, to require companies to cover preexisting conditions, for example. These “government-run” claims have also included heavy criticism of health care in the U.K., such as the outrageous assertion by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop that seniors would be “too old” to qualify for artificial joints and pacemakers in the U.K. The majority of those getting joint replacements and pacemakers in the U.K. are, not surprisingly, seniors.

:o

We are now socialist, one step away from communism, the red menace.

I wish Mr. Bush could have run again, he would have wiped the floor with that Osama.

Look at this economy, it was never this bad under Mr. Bush

Spend, Spend, Spend, Who's got the money? Aww, it's alright we'll make more

And if you don't have healthcare because you simply don't need/want it, you'll be fined by the govt for not having it.

Jre1974, I am usually pretty good at following the LBT rules and addressing the issue and not attacking the person. However, whenever I see this particular argument, I just want to scream at the lunacy of such a comment.

Everyone NEEDS healthcare, it’s really that simple. We are all human and we all at one time or another will have a human malady that will need to be addressed with some sort of medical care. In most of the cases, if that person that needs care does not have insurance because they didn’t “want it” or thought they didn’t “need it” they will either go untreated, die of their ailment, or go onto some sort of public system (like walking into the ER). None of those solutions are acceptable and all cost the economy far more than Universal Health care would cost.

Unfortunately this Bill is not Universal Health Care, it is not Medicare for all, and does not have a Public Option. This is a first step in the right direction and it certainly addresses a lot of the problems with the current system. I just hope we find a way to add to it to make it better.

My Plan:

Apply an appropriate percentage of Medicare Tax on ALL income and give everyone Basic Medical coverage under a centrally administered Medicare Program. The basic plan would include well doctor visits, routine medical/dental care, medical necessities, and critical care and that’s it. Anything deemed elective or above and beyond “basic” care could be addressed with supplemental medical insurance bought on the open market. This could be done the same way our public school system works. We all pay taxes so that every child is guaranteed the right (not privilege) to attend K-12 education. If parents choose to supplement the public education, they are free to send their kids to private schools, add supplemental tutoring, enroll in out of school extracurricular activities, etc. It just seems so simple to me, but then I’m just a regular guy and not a politician.

phil, you nut. You're 64. Your personal data sez so. You're already grown up. So move in next door to Rush and make him share some of his prescripts with you. But don't be surprised if it makes you a raving maniac. And don't expect your insurance company to pay for the drugs. And if they do cover your drugs, don't expect anything but lesser generic drug buzzes.

A Bentley eh? I actually drive a Jaguar XK8. Eat your heart out. Seriously haven't had it long. It's not in the neighborhood of a Bentley but it's all mine and it's a blast! Of course when cute guys see my chubby butt climbing in and out of it, they might be put off a little, but if I get the sleeve and make my goal, I'm gonna be dangerous!

It amazes me that everyone thinks they are going to end up with free healthcare now that this has happened...I overheard some people talking in the check out line at the store the other day about how when this health care bill passes, they are going to get free healthcare...I just had to shake my head...I wanted to say that, No, you're not going to get free healthcare...as a matter of fact, if you have healthcare, now you're going to have to pay a 40% tax on your premiums in order to pay for all the illegal aliens and welfare people to have free healthcare.

And if you don't have healthcare because you simply don't need/want it, you'll be fined by the govt for not having it. And watch how many people get laid off because the govt is going to mandate that employers offer their workers healthcare, or they get fined $2000 per employee...Oh yeah, and don't forget the educational issues that were hidden in this bill..now it is illegal for you to get student loans through any other lender, except for the federal govt....

Every poll out there shows that a majority of the people in this country are NOT in favor of this bill, so how can the Dems say they are representing the people by passing this monstrosity? Its amazing...

I only hope there is a True Conservative that runs in 2012. If there is a true conservative out there who runs, they will win because the American people are tired of this crap.

Finally! Someone posting here that I can agree with! So true what you say. They just don't get it, but they will.

It's you guys who don't get it. All of us on here have proven you wrong over and over again but you refuse to allow facts to interfere with your opinions. You just keep repeating the lies, distortions, myths and untruths over and over again.

This first paragraph is just a sample of the misconceptions people have about the bill. I think the tax is on higher income people, not the poor, who probably will get the chance to get free health care. Single people who make 40k a year can afford some form of healthcare. People below that figure, probably not. The above referenced people are ill informed that is why paragraph number two carries any weight. Simple phrase. "When one knows better they do better." When simple people know whats in the bill, they make better observations about it. But since we have retards like Beck and Limbutt who have hypnotized the collectively uninformed, we have confusion. The True conservative screamed out "baby killer" in the House. Good luck with getting characters like that elected.

Just like people of my generation can not conceive of life before social security, 30 years from now our kids/ grandkids will be saying "You mean they use to just let people who couldn't afford health care die?" They wont be able to believe that there was ever an argument about this, and people from our generation won't ever admit they were against it.

No they wont. They'll be blaming thier folks for allowing the government to have such control of their lives and blaming them for the tremendous debt that they had to inherit. Just like we blame all of those in the past for the sham called Social security and the bill we have to keep paying and all the other government programs that are in bankruptcy.

The government is bankrupt? Well, by contrast, I guess that means that private industry is doing just fine. Oh wait, they aren't. GM, Chrysler, Lehman Brothers, AIG, Bear Stearns, Countrywide, etc.. Didn't they go bankrupt playing russian roulette with our money? Hmmm. How can that be if the government is the problem?

It wasn't our government that got us into the economic disaster that we faced in the fall 2008, it was corporate america.

Eleven scariest words in the English language: I am a wall street bank and I want your money.

Social Security a sham? Every month millions of people get their checks on time. Every month, every one of them. Now, by contrast, how's that 401(k) and retirement plan working out for you the last couple of years? Mine tanked like everyone else's.

Government plan: 1

Private Plan: 0

I could have sworn that all those "socialized" programs are still around, Social security being one of them. Name a percentage that feels SS is wrong and i'll show you what single digit means....minority.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
