Hi my name is Samantha iam 33 and i am a mother of two beautiful children who are 7 and 5. I have a wonderful husband who is very supportive of my decision to have Lap Band surgery. I am booked in for surgery on the 17th of April at the Avenue Hospital in Melbourne. My surgeoun is Mr Paul Burton. I have decided that this year is my year and it's time to focus alot of my energy on myself. For so many years I have put everyone else's needs before my own, but this year iam taking control of my weight so i can truly become the person i want to be. Bye for now:tongue2:

I am a mother of four children. I am 39 years old and have been over weight since I had my first son in 1998. I decided 2009 was my year to finally get healthy for not only myself, but for my family.

I had surgery on 2/11/09 and have lost 25 pounds so far. Very excited. I had lost 10 on my pre-op diet.

Be excited for this procedure as it is a life changing experience.

Good luck to both of you!

Hello to each of you! I too have decided this is the year to focus on me and what I need. I have always had "issues" with my weight, but had managed to pretty much keep it under control. Maybe not in the best of ways, but....... Anyway, since the arrival of my oldest child in 1997, my weight has spiraled out of control. I want to be around for some time to come and had to do something about it as I have had high BP for a number of years and was begining to have other weight related health problems. I was just banded here in Richmond VA on February 5th. So far I have lost a total of 38 pounds but still have a ways to go( I would like to lose another 100 pounds). I feel very fortunate that my family has been so supportive in my decisiion. I wish each of us much luck and success on this great journey that we have or are about to embark upon! Best wishes!!:)

Hey Samantha,

Your surgery should be done now. Hope your recovery has been fast and smooth. I'm also being banded at The Avenue - TODAY!! Let us know how you went

There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. It's a wonderful place for support.

Also, you've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE.

Hi pharmagirl, i hope your surgery goes well. You are in great hands, im a nurse myself and i found the care top notch. It was like a hotel!! Today is day 6 and im doing well. The first few days were tough, couldnt get comfortable anywhere!! I have developed the shoulder tip pain at about day 3!! I thought it was gunna skip me altogether, but i was not that lucky!! By day 5 i didnt need any pain killers which was good. Im just starting to get more mobile and do a bit more for myself. My husband has been great he has stayed at home for the week with me, to run the kids to school, cook, washing etc etc. Im hoping to start walking on Monday. Ive lost about 4.5kg which is good. My starting weight was 105.5kg. Wishing you all the best on your recovery. Hope to talk to u soon. Cheers Sam:smile::rolleyes2::smile::tongue::smile::tt1::smile:

Home now. Sam, you're right - The nursing care at the Avenue was top notch. I feel as though I've been kicked in the guts by a horse, I can't get comfortable no matter how I position myself, and my stomach is so bloated I look as though I'm ready to give birth (to twins). I'm already getting gas pain which are not pleasant. Great to hear that your husband has been supportive and helpful.

Hi Samantha,

I too was banded by Dr Paul Burton - how are you travelling now on your WL journey as I notice your posts are 2009. Have you reached goal weight yet?

Sarah :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
