I haven't come across a thread like this...maybe I'm wrong.

Born from my facebook Movie List note, I realized I watch way too many movies...and I'd like to know what ya'll think of movies that you've seen.

Recently I saw "He's Just Not That Into You" and I hated it. Not all of it, but most of it...I liked the uptight wife who threw the mirror and then cleaned it up. But overall the movie was really not what I expected.

I expected it to follow the premise of the book, and I thought it'd be more of a chick-bonding flick than a sappy love story (or a few of 'em). The stories depicted proved the "exceptions" rather than "rule", which is what the book tried so hard to convey.

I also expected more from the Drew Barrymore character - I like her in movies and she fell flat in this one.

Thoughts? Movies?

Gloucester, have you seen Hangover yet? I laughed so hard. If you are offended by nudity, don't watch the credits. 4/5

I have seen HP twice, including at midnight opening night. It is really good and quite entertaining, especially for those who don't read the books, but it leaves a LOT out. 4.5/5

Proposal, predictable, but dangit, Ryan Reynalds is so cute in it, and much applause to Sandra Bullock for her banging bod in her 40s. 3.5/5

Will being a MP fan forgive me of my Knowing enjoyment? My fav is the Holy Grail, "kniggits" and "come back and fight like a man!"

Yeah, it leaves so much out that it drives me nuts. Love the books, love the movies, but for different reasons. The last book will be in two movies, so maybe they'll stick more to the story line, since they'll have time? hope so...

I want to see that JUST because of Ryan Reynolds...where the heck did he come from? woo...HOTTIE!!! And, I'm a fan of Sandra Bullock, though her movie choices have been a little off, I still love her.

Maybe..I'm not going to review the thread to find your previous movie likes and dislikes, but will be closely monitoring henceforth. :thumbup::sneaky:

Watched (and regretted having done so) the 1997 movie The Hanging Garden. Unless you really like heavy symbolism bombarding you in each scene, give it a wide berth, and save your movie time for something else. The book was great. The movie was an 'artsy' fiasco.

Fast & Furious (most recent): 3. It was pretty good, but was a bit slow in the middle. Not enough action.

I saw Funny People last weekend. I was really looking forward to it and was very disappointed. I give it a 3/5 but would not pay to see it again.

Ok, for my non-FB friends, this last weekend I saw the new Harry Potter movie. If you've never read any of the books, or do not care much for the intricacies of the plot, it's a pretty good film. However, it's the hands-down worst screenplay adaption of a book that I've ever seen. I won't go much into it here because I don't want to provide spoilers for the book OR the movie.....suffice it to say that the movie just made Snape look like an evil bastard and Harry look like a coward.

The filmmakers left out things that are essential to the overarching HP plot. Again, I don't want to put out spoilers, so I'll just say: In the book, the biggest theme is the power of love to overcome evil and to spark redemption. It appears again and again in big ways and small. Very little of the "The Half-Blood Prince" book is seen in the movie. Frankly, It makes me very worried for the final two movies.

Yeah, I have my concerns as well. It seems as if they will have to leave out pivotal parts of the last book/movie, because they can't be tied in, because the background events were left out in THIS movie.... I just hope because it will be in two parts, they find some way to salvage it.:scared2:

Finally got back to seeing some flicks:

The Ugly Truth: Didn't have high expectations, and it met every one of them. You know going in exactly where this film will end up, and the only question is how it gets there. Some funny scenes, and legumes will never be the same :cool:

G.I. Joe. One of the summer popcorn flicks. Good special effects, decent characters, plot was weak but it's the first of what will obviously be an ongoing series. The body count is pretty high. Despite the fact the old GI Joe was aimed at kids, this is not a kids' flick.

re: Harry Potter. My MIL (to be) asked me this weekend how the movies are to the book. I'd seen the movie and been very disappointed in it, so was reading the book again to clear the trainwreck away.

She's not a big reader and never has read any HP book. So, it occurred to me that if you hadn't read the books, then the movie would be good. It's not as in-depth as the books and true fans get grumpy at that, but as a movie it does stand it's own. As a parallel to the book - not so much.

Funny, Manatee - my daughter went to see GI Joe (she's 12) with my mom and she loved it. I can't wait to see it. That's the kind of movie I love.

Didn't see anything this weekend, but passed several movie theaters listing movies I WANT to see...does that count?

So where have all the movie reviewers gone???

I am just getting back into seeing some - note they aren't NEW, but they are new to me! So using our trust 1-5 scale in which 1 is 'I would rather gouge out my eyes with hot pokers then be forced to sit through that crap again' and 5 is 'now THAT'S a movie - good story, good acting, good directing....more of these are needed to wash the stench of the millions of BAD movies'....
