Help! I need protein

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 22nd and really need to increase my Protein. I tried New Whey mixed in crystal light and it made me nauseous. How are you getting your protein in? I am willing to give anything a try. What Proteins do you like that don't make you nauseous?

well since you are probably on the liquid stage , the only Liquid Protein that I tolerated was carnation instant breakfast- no sugar added. Other then that I had some problems getting my Protein in to. Good luck

Is that the 22nd of Jan? If so you are still in liquids. Hunt around for some whey Protein Powder.I personally like the EAS (23 g protein)(online or Sams). Large bags. Choc or van. Add ice to make it frozen, later you can add fruit, berries or bananas. adding a little ice adds a little more Water to your consumption. GNC carries lots of flavors about $15. 1lb bag. We were given a recipe for Fortified fudgesicle. (or other flavors). 8 oz cottage cheese, 1/2 can evaporated milk, 1 pkg sugar free pudding, blend and spoon/pour into popsicle holders or small(bathroom size paper cups) and put a popsicle stick or toothpick and freeze. 9 grams protein each and they are good, my picky daughter even liked them. works well with butter scotch, vannilla, choco, lemon, whatever flavor you like if you can get it in the SF pudding box. Until you find Protein Powder you like, don't buy large qty. Remember you will be needing this stuff for a great long time, especially after saline fills. when you have to do liquids again for a few days. The more protein you get into your body the faster it will heal and the quicker you will sart burning the fat. I am 1 yr out and now on evenings if I am running late getting home from gym or late walking, I will do a big 12 oz fruit /vanilla protein frozen shake. Wonderful, and then go to bed. It also adds a few extra protein grams for recovery during sleep. Use that tool to your advantage, take care of it and yourself. love my band..Good luck

If it wasn't a reaction and just the taste you didnt like, I would try the New Whey protein bullets 42g (GNC). They are kind of expensive but they are only 3 oz and 42g each so it is really easy to get down. They have a real tart taste, that my husband says is like a sweet tart. It was the easiest way to get protein in when I was on liquids post op.

Try Protein Shakes. That works for me and I usualy can't stand them. I use v-60 vanilla (to me the choclate is gross) I add ice, stawberries and bannanas, protein powder a little no fat or 2% milk and a splenda...mix it together in a blender and your good to go. It taste like a strawberry shake.....I love em. I hope that helps:thumbup:

I drink the Isopure fruit flavor Protein drinks and the New Whey protein bullets. I like the flavors of both.

I like the vanilla Atkins protien shake and the slim fast low carb chocolate shake. I think the vanilla atkins shake mixes well with fruit.

I can't get the shake down in one sitting, though and drink it in a cup and put the rest in the fridge for when I am ready.

I really appreciate your suggestions and more are welome. I tried Muscle Milk light 20g of Protein and tolerated it much better than the New Whey. I will definitely be getting some powder soon. What do you like?

I only use 1/2 of the New Whey bullet mixed with Crystal Lite in about 24-32 oz Water otherwise it is just too much. Since I had to get 64 oz water, I bullet would do per day and give me 42 gms of protien. Play around with your Proteins to see what you can tolerate. The thought of drinking the entire bullet made me nauseas also.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
