Oyesican,

I understand your head hunger. I am going through the same thing. No more diet sodas? There are so many food addictions I have and didn't realize it. I know sodas aren't good for you anyway. At 56 years old, food has been my best friend. Are you in the Dallas area? I have my surgery in one week. We can do this !!!!

Miss Can-Do,

Yeah, It's been pretty easy, but each day has been different. The indigestion thing was no fun, it's like I needed to burp but couldn't. chewable Pepcid AC has made a big difference. My stomach looks huge, even more huge than normal, feels like a balloon, guess it's the swelling around the stomach. Hardly any pain at all, just a twinge now and then. Put in a full day at work, it's a home based business so that's nice. I'm still catching up from being gone 6 days, worked hard but got through it. What a great tool, I'm very excited about the coming year!

Miss Cheryl: Tomorrow is my first day back, which, luckily, I have my first check-up at 2:00 in the afternoon so I guess I'll get the afternoon off. I'm prettty worried about heading back to work, I know I'm lucky to have had a week off but I'm just wondering how I'll do. Yesterday "Day 5" was the one for me. I just woke up feeling great, so I got out of the house and got a pedi/mani and shopped a bit but by the evening time I found myself a bit exhausted. So I know now to take it easy. Today's my last day home and I'm just gonna hang out at the house and maybe catch a nap one more time before going back to work. Don't worry about your stomach because mine is like that as well. It's like there's a bubble right under my chest, which is where my incisions are. I've been trying to get rid of the extra gas and Water that they pumped into me in the hospital for hydration before my weigh-in tomorrow. Keep up the good work! A year from now we'll be some Hotties!

I was banded March 2nd. I started out at 266, was 261 at banding and I am now 255. I did the Carnation Instant sugar free with ice & lofat milk as preop and I ate the salads from Burger King and McDonalds.

I craved broth at the hospital, I stayed overnight. I recommend staying the night at the hospital if you can. I was only given ice chips.

I have started on Soups and I have been eating real food, just really chewing it alot and I don't have to have as much. I stop when I start to feel full, it is hard remembering not to drink after. I had cream of wheat last night because it was on the list, this morning I woke up growling. I know because of the carbs. I know if I cut out the carbs I will be ok. It is nice saving money not buying so much food.

First off Congrats on the Surgery and Weight Loss. That's big. I had my surgery on the 5th and I seem to be doing pretty good. My doctor wants an all clear liquid diet for the first week and then normal foods after that. But I guess i've cheated in the way that i've tried normal soupy foods in the past two days, just to stop the stomach from rumbling. I'm right there with you on not being able to get much down. It takes me 10 minutes to get 2 bites in and after that I seem fuller than ever. Do you think this restriction will change? I think my band is empty (I'm pretty sure that's what the doc said) and my first fill isn't for another 5 weeks so I'm just wondering if the restriction will last for another month at least so I won't feel the need to eat more.

I just got home from the hospital, my surgery was yesterday 3/9/09. I'm feeling pretty ok, have a lot of gas pain so need to start hitting the Gas-X. walked around as much as i could last night to start the gas moving and it did help a bit but not enough. my incisions are quite sore, my surgeon Dr. Fielding at NYU has a new method where he only does two incisions so I only have two but they definitely hurt. Am trying to take it easy and recover. Good luck to everyone who's surgeries are coming up!

I am on my second day of the pre-op diet. I have to say its a struggle to not grab food when I get board or hungry. I'm gonna stick through until the end, but boy my stomach sure is growling:) I'll be having my surgery on the 16th. I am so excited but nervous about the pain. I have no problem admitting that I am a baby when it comes to pain. I'm hoping all goes well and that first week slips by fast and comfortably.

good luck everyone

Home from the hospital... my date was 3/9/09.

Some pain still from gas. I'm walking a lot and haven't really been hungry yet. Kind of puffed up like a balloon too.

I was banded around noon on March 8th and I came home about 5pm. I don't know about all of you but I am so sore! The incisions don't really hurt and the gas pains are starting to ease but the muscles around my stomach are really really sore and they keep spasming. I feel like I've done 10,000 sit ups. Since I can't use my stomach to sit up I've been using my leg muscles so those are now sore too. And since I can only sleep on my back I have the worst stiff neck. OMG I feel like such a complainer but the Loritab doesn't really help the sore muscles. Gas-x strips worked wonders, so did walking and the heating pad on my shoulder while awake and sleeping. I haven't been able to sleep a full night yet (only 3-4 hours at a time) but hopefully tonight will be better.

For those of you that have been banded...when did you start sleeping on your side again?

I finally get to take a shower today and I'm very excited for that. I'm having a hard time remembering to drink fluids constantly. I am trying really hard to get the 64oz in per day but man it's difficult! It also seems like every time I drink I get the hiccups and that really is painful.

Overall, I feel way better today than I did yesterday or Sunday and it can only get better from here. I've lost 2 lbs since surgery so let's just keep that up! Woohoo, I have no regrets and I'm so excited for the rest of you Lucky Losers that are getting banded later this month.

Hey fellow bandsters! First post for me here.

Well, I'm 21 years old, senior in college, and I was just banded yesterday! I'm feeling OK, a little bit of pain when standing up and bending, but nothing that the pain meds and sleep can't handle. The only incision that hurts is the larger one, and I think that is where the port is. I haven't had any gas pains that people talk about. I didn't need to stay overnight, first day (yesterday) I was on Clear Liquids, and today and tomorrow I am on full liquids (although I haven't been feeling ready to eat, so I had some broth, SF Jello, and one Optifast shake). I'm supposed to start the pureed stuff on Thursday. Anyway, just thought I would stop by and say hey and let some people know what they're about to experience!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
