I would suggest going to your surgeon and explaining all of the symptoms you are having, not to direct him to take some fill out. He wants you to be one of his successful patients, I'm sure, so he should be more than willing to listen and help you through this rough period.

I had some fill taken out to stop the night time acid reflux. I was fine in the day time. I could eat without anything getting stuck, and I had no problem with any foods. But since I was having that problem in the middle of the night, my dr. and I decided to have some saline taken out. It seems to have stopped the problem.

I tried everything to get rid of night-time reflux. It was terrible but I never had a problem pre-banding. I took meds, stopped eating after a certain time, did everything possible and I could only take it from extremely bad to moderately bad at best.

Then I had some fill removed and it dissappeared completely.

I either have almost no hunger but can't sleep at night for the coughing and spitting up . . . or I have a little hunger and have to diet a little harder but sleep like a baby.

Right now I am sleeping like a baby . . . :0)

I used to have acid reflux every day, took nexium, which worked very well. However, since being banded, I have had zero problems with reflux and stopped taking the little purple pill!

Since I had some of my fill removed, I don't have to take anything for acid reflux anymore. It's great. I don't have any heartburn, but I am getting hungry soon after I eat, and I am going to have to depend on willpower now. I am not so good with that.

hi,

this is common problem for any lap band patients. as you feel problem in sleeping due to the port so you have to sleep by yur side or back

This may cause the problem of reflux. but do not worry it is not permanent. consult with your surgeon to get rid from this problem. if you have any more question you may ask to

Lap Band Surgery Questions & Answers Share, Ask & Find about Lap Ban Surgery Questions & Answers

I checked out your web site and for an FAQ it is long on questions and short on answers. Most of the questions (supposedly asked by different people) seem to be written in the same broken English as yours. Now, why is that?

How much are you getting paid per hit on your site?

This looks to me like pay per hit advertising site.

i totally agree. I was taking aciphex for years. I am glad to say that since my surgery (Aug 5) I havn't had reflux. Like you said, that alone is worth it.

Like many overweight folks, I had it before surgery. My surgeon did something called a fundoplication. They kind of wrap part of the stomach around the esophagus. He said I should never have reflux again. Now I've had a lot of gas since surgery. And if I eat too big a bite or too fast I feel a similar pain. But no actual reflux anymore.

I got banded 10-10-08 and my reflux is 50 times worse. I rarely had a problem before and now it effects my breathing and my voice. I NEVER got heart burn from it, the acid seems to settle in my throat and affects my voice and seems to prevent me from taking a very deep breath. Any help out there ?

I have been up since 2am (it's 7am now) with the worst reflux of my life. It's been going straight now for a week. I already take 20mg of Aciphex twice a day (that seems to have been working). Last weekend I added 150mg zantac 2 x's a day. And if anything it's just gotten worse and is now 24 hours a day for the last 4 days. I've been sleeping sitting up... when I can sleep. Right now I have terrible burning, lump in my throat, reflux during the day, worse at night.

F@#$k why didn't I call the Dr. earlier this week. I thought I could manage this!

So at 6am in misery I called my hospital, they page a dr. who calls me back within 5 min. He just tells me that I need to call the surgery clinic first thing monday and make an appointment. MONDAY!!! I asked what to do in the mean time, he said it sounds like you're doing it all already. Just wait. After he hung up I started balling (i'm delirously tierd and am in so much pain.)

-Gall bladder removed at age 23

-Lab band surgery at age 27

-I had heartburn(no reflux), ulcers, gerd, gastritous and a hiatal hernia before suregery.

-Since surgery it calmed way down. I went down to just taking 1 aciphex a day and sometimes could skip a few.

-I had 2 unfills over the summer (because some reflux started up, spitting up and choking on acid burning my throat). I felt 100% after the unfills. I hit a weight plataue at 170 from Aug till Dec. Reflux was fine.

-Now since xmas eve I have been miserable!!! I've started losing weight again, but I think it's because i'm eating so much less because i'm in so much pain. In two weeks I've lost 8 pounds.

-I know I was overeating during december and having too much sugar. I go to Overeaters Anonymous and treat my food addiction. I'm not binge eating anymore, just test my limits sometimes. I'm all about following the rules and my surgeon says i'm his star patient, never had a lap band patient lose 100lbs before. I'm doing something right. But this december I got a little loose.

Was it the overeating that caused it? Why all of sudden am I having reflux from HELL?

Guess I just need an ufill. I can't imagine having to wait till Wednesday (his clinic day) to get an unfill.

Any suggestions, I'm totally open? and miserable...

Morning,

I recently heard of a new surgical procedure done for acid reflux through the throat. My doctor in New Jersey does it. I don't know the name but I'll try to find out for you.

I a having the same problem. Mostly at night. Coughing and throwing up for over a year now...5-6 times a night. Been working with my doc. Have had two surgeries this year (one to check the band, another to take my gallbladder out). Nothing helps. Had my gallbladder out a week ago and starting throwing up again a few days later.....anyone out there have the same problems and have some advice. I go back to my doc at the end of the week...I am afraid he will say it is time to take the band out.

Thanks.

i'm sorry you are having such a hard time especially now at this stage of the game. I hope yu can get some saline out; it sounds like you are just too tight. I have noticed for the first time since I had the procedure (aug, 2008) that I am starting to have the beginnings of acid reflux again. when I go for a fill at the end of the month, I plan on telling the Dr. and although I would like to get it tightend, I'm afraid more than anything that the reflux will come back. Good luck to you Leslie

how awful for you. My advice is that you follow up on this and be on top of the situation. Call your dr. and get an unfill see if that helps. Good luck

The same happen to me and I caused myself to have to have my band removed, the band is to tight.... It makes you have reflux may cause you to have a slip. Be careful..... See your doctor about the reflux......

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
