early january banders

Recommended Posts

It has been pretty quite on here lately, so I thought I'd start a new topic. those of you already banded early in the month. How are are you doing? What are you eating, are you back to work, feeling any pain etc.?

I have lost 12 since surgery - 25 total. wooo hoo.

I am eating lots of purees of course. I found some sites to make homemade babyfood, so I've used them. Yesterday, I bought a can of campbells chunky chili with steak and Beans, into the blender it went. It was good - normally, I don't like beans, because of the texture, but hey they were being pureed, so why not. today, I got a can of progresso chicken corn chowder. It was not the best choice - 200 cal for the serving, but, I have been doing so good, I figured it was time for a little treat, and that is a much better treat than my former usual - Peanut Butter Cup

I am back to work, but wed I over did it a little, so I developed a bit of a muscle pull. My kids are going to have to learn to help out around the house more. they were good the first couple of days post op, but once mom was up and around, it was like all bets are off. I do have my first Pampered Chef show post op tomorrow, but my daughter will be going with me to help carry everything. I'm excited and nervous.

Congratulations on your first 25 pounds!!!! :scared2:

I was banded on the 9th as well. Had my follow up dr's appt yesterday and had the stinkies (steri-strips) removed! It was a HAPPY day! I've lost 7 lbs post surgery - 20 total.

:(

I started mushies today - I'm still not in the "I can't eat as much" frame of mind so when I made my scrambled egg this morning, I actually made TWO! Yeah, I'm not so sure I even got a whole ONE down. :)

Anyway, everything's going great here! I "went back to work" the Monday post-op. BUT, I work from home so I have a serious advantage.

Congratulations again!!!! Good luck at your show tomorrow - I love Pampered Chef!

KMC - congrats on your 7 and 20 total - I have my post op check up on monday. when I eat eggs (egg beaters white) I only do 3 tbsp which equals 1 egg, that's all I can manage. Usually when I eat, I get about 1/2 cup, but I'm hungry about 2 hrs later, so I will eat the other half of a serving then. according the nutrition tracker I'm using, Im only getting about 550-700 cal a day

I was band on the 8th. I am eating soft foods now, exercising at least 4 to 5 times a week. I also went back to work about a week after my surgery. I am down about 25 lbs now and one size. I am feeling really good.

If I eat a egg I get full with only one. Before I could eat about three to four eggs. Wow! This is so great.

I am so happy everyone is doing really good and losing the weight and see the results. Keep it up NEW YEAR HOTTIES!

I can manage one whole egg, depending on how it's cooked. Two ounces at a time of just about anything is it. I just managed to keep down an ounce of beef this weekend.

I've been back to work since the Monday after my surgery, but I put myself on a light schedule that first week and had my wonderful assistant do a lot. Now I'm back in full swing! Woohoo!

I am so glad you are back to work. I have been back for two weeks now. I too can only eat one egg and I am eating about 2 oz of meat (chicken and fish only) I am worried about any other types of meats for now. Maybe after I see the doctor on Feb. 16th. I also get my first fill on that day too. Oh Boy!:cursing:

Hello Everyone!!

Well, I must be in Bandster's Hell!! I wish that only 2 oz would fill me!! I'm keeping my weight down since I lost it from surgery. (about 13-15 lbs) However, I am making sure that I walk. My son & I even rode our bikes on Sunday!! Lots of will power here going on!! I did call my Dr & he even suggested for me to take some Adipex!! I was like, WHAT?? He said that it was to help until I get my 1st fill. Which is Feb 5th. So, I haven't filled the Rx yet, I'm trying the will power.. I do miss the "pressure" feeling that told me to hold off.. But, the good news is that I have lost 3 inches!! I am going to take my pic this weekend - my one month pic. I know that I have lost a size!! (I can pull off my jeans without unzipping them!!)

Funny thing, my friends husband said that my eyes don't look as "puffy". :glare:

My husband has been out of town the past week, he said that I am looking good. :(

The girls at work have been so supportive!! They make sure I don't over-do myself with the large dogs that come in. Also, they are starting to ask questions. At first, the reason why I didnt want to tell them - is because of the questions, "I thought that you can't eat that.. or How much have you lost??" But, when they ask me questions, it's more of... "how are you doing?? you seem to be doing very well- I wish that I had your will-power!!"

I guess with all of my other "diets" - I always end up saying to myself.. Oh well, I'm already fat- what will one more "..." do?? LOL Now, it's like - I went through the 6 months nutrition, the psych eval, been through 5 yrs of overweight, PCOS, high cholesterol, borderline of being a diabetic (my mom is now), and everything else that Cigna required & had approved.. I can do it!!

I am looking forward for a wonderful year - a new life!!

Hi there everyone,

I'm Tiffeny and I was banded on the 7th. I'm doing pretty well. Some days I'm hungry and some days i don't have cravings at all. It is all pretty weird. I'm down a total of 47 pounds so far. 22 presurgery and 23 post-surgery. I'm anxious and a little nervous for my first fill on Feb 10th. When is everyone getting their first fill?

Wow! You all are doing great. I got banded on the 20th and I'm still having some problems with some mild pain near the port and especially if I bend over. I try not to bend over of course.

I was told not to worry about getting a fill until 6 to 8 weeks post op, something about healing properly. I guess all surgeons are different. I was also told that I may not need one for quite a while, depending on my weight loss. He said as long as I was losing weight, I wouldn't need a fill. I am wondering if I should go ahead and get a fill anyway to secure more weight loss.

I was banded on the 14th and my doctor is making me take 4 weeks off if work. Which is fine by me, because even though it's a desk job, I still find it uncomfortable to sit in a chair for very long. My port side is still a bit sore. I feel great, otherwise.

Today I started to add yogurt, sugar free pudding and strained low fat cream Soup to my diet. It was the best lunch I've had in at least a month! Anything but more broth works for me! I'm only hoping I don't gorge too much today, since I can't seem to lose any weight right now. I expect my first fill to be the 3rd week of february, but I think I'll find out at my post-op appt on Friday. I feel like I could eat and eat right now and not ever feel full. I hate to say it, but I can't wait for the feeling of restriction!

My dad came over yesterday and brought my dog back (she's a puppy and likes to wake me up by jumping on me... not a great idea for the first couple of weeks, so he was dog-sitting). He said that he could tell I was thinner, which was nice. Having my dog home is totally going to help, since she loves walks and it motivates me to get outside in the -18C weather :cursing:

Hi everybody!

I had surgery on the 6th and am in my 4th week of restricted diet. I usually have cottage cheese for Breakfast and yogurt for lunch and Soup for dinner. I can eat almost 1 cup worth of food at a time, very slowly, and then I feel satisfied. I thought that I would only be eating about 1/2 cup at a given time.

My first fill will be on the 16th. I am very excited about it. Maybe then I will eat less. I also have been not going over 1200 calories a day. And making sure I get between 50 and 60 grams of Protein.

There is a great website called caloriecount.about.com that I use to keep track of everything. Then I can get a month worth of analysis. I looks like this:

Date Calories Grams Fat Carbs Protein Grade

2009-01-22 1,178 1,550 24 182 56 B+

2009-01-23 1,252 1,425 32 182 53 B-

2009-01-24 1,028 1,211 19 121 90 A-

2009-01-25 901 1,051 13 93 89 A-

2009-01-26 1,260 834 66 173 96 B-

2009-01-27 980 678 41 122 79 B

2009-01-28 939 383 25 94 71 C+

2009-01-29 640 284 22 39 61 C+

The grade is for the choices of food during the day like too many carb or fat.

Well, it's great to hear form you all. Take care.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
