On the hunt for Protein Drinks

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

So, today I have been checking out all the different Protein Drinks & powders available. I bought a few samples. There are tons of them on the market!!! It made my head spin!! :yikes:

I was wondering if anyone else has been trying the Protein drinks? Specifically, I found some that are more like a Gatorade-type drink:

Sci-fit Protein Twist

Cytomax Protein Pure Performance Drink

Have any of you tried these?

I hate milk and milk-type drinks, so I thought these might work better for me. But I don't want to buy 12 of them if they taste like the bottom of my shoe, ya know?

Just curious!

Hugs,

I found the best drinks at Publix and Wal-Mart. If you look where the Orange juice is you should find a brand of protein drinks called "BOLTHOUSE" they have the BEST drinks. Chai Tea that taste like Starbucks. They have another Mocha one thats just as good. Also NAKED has a few good drinks. Naked ones are little thicker but still better than the mix. Hope this helps!!! :)

i'm really liking Muscle Milk. It's got 32g of Protein, is relatively low fat, tastes pretty good and actually keeps me somewhat full. I like the chocolate one alot, and i've also had the Mocha Latte which is tolerable but a bit sweet.

So far I have found I like the fruity ones much better than the chocolate, vanilla etc. However, I have a sample of a peanut butter-chocolate that I can't wait to try!

Isopure makes a gatorade-like drink that really is quite good. It has 45g of Protein and no fat or sugars.

I also tried Syntrax Nectar, cherry flavored. I mixed it with my Crystal Light lemonade and it tasted just like a cherry lemonade from Sonic. YUMMY!

The only off-putting thing I found about it was the smell. That vitamin-y smell. Otherwise, it may be a keeper!

Yeah the Protein drinks have funky smells some times and you just have to ignore that.

I like Muscle Milk and the EAS Myoplex ones. They are tolerable.

Shelly, I drink the Isopure ones every day. I usually pour a whole one into my Nalgene bottle and dilute it with Water and Crystal Light powder so that it lasts me longer.

I have one week to go and I'm super excited!!

Me too!

7 days from today!

The Isopure is really refreshing over ice. I was impressed w/ it.

Reading a few books on LapBand, I have noticed some books say we should have at least one Protein Drink a day for the rest of our lives.

Others say we shouldn't because they just slip right thru our pouch.

What have you guys heard/read?

My nutritionist gave me a little packet full of information on what to eat, etc. In there it says something about how Protein drinks can be used as a Meal Replacement because you really don't consume much Protein in 4oz of food per meal... she says the trick is to thicken them up a bit (with ice, sugar free pudding, bananas, etc) to make them filling.

I really like the EAS Myoplex Fudge flavor in the blender with some ice and I think post-surgery it would really fill me up.

Okay, Laurr that brings me to my next question. Hope ya don't mind me picking your brain!

I like to make fruit smoothies w/ yogurt and frozen or fresh fruit. I read that for some stupid reason fruit smoothies are on the No-No list. What have you heard about this? Cuz I was thinking once I can eat normal again, a fruit smoothie w/ Protein Powder would be a great start to the day!

I know you are asking about drinks, but I have a friend who told me about making SF pudding and adding Protein into it while making and its great. So, I put chocolate or vanilla protein powder in as I mix it up and sort it into containers and when I eat a yummy snack I'm actually geting my protein. A lot less expensive than the premade drinks too!!

Hi you guys, I like the BariatricChoice drinks, fruity and hot chocolate are great - but they are only 15 grams. The Unjury is 29 grams and I like the chocolate and vanilla mixed in something else. They are creamy though so not 'light' but good quality Protein which in my reading seems to be important. My docs office sells it but I also ordered on line. Trader Joes (if you have one near you, I'm in CA) is supposed to have a good one too as well as GNC if you have that where you are. Will report back after I try other ones too.

You can get these whey Protein shots at nutrition stores, they don't have that milk taste, but they are pretty thick and concentrated. they work great in Jello, though! cherry flavored in lemon Jello, fruit punch, orange and grape are the other flavors i've seen, they all worked well in the jello, and if you get the ones with 40 grams of Protein, you can make 4 20 gram servings from 1 jello box and 2 Protein Shots.< /p>

just an idea, it workwd well when I tried it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
