February '09 bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I am on the band wagon on 10 Feb and could not be more happy. I had my first appointment on 22 Dec 2008, did all my evaluations within a month and saw the doctor again on 21 Jan 09. From there they submitted to my insurance and I got the word of approval on 27 Jan. Pre-opp is set of 4 Feb and surgery 10 Feb. I too am a bit nervous, but so excited to get this done and on my way to a new life. I am not on a pre-opp diet although I have been drinking protien shakes twice a day for about a month, not at the request of the doctor. I lost 13 pounds from first visit to second visit. thanks for the thread for our group!

Hi Everyone!

I'm getting banded on 2/18 - just got my approval this week! I'm excited but also scared! I've been reading a lot and trying to prepare my mind and body for this transformation! I could really use a friend in this.

Feb 5th is coming fast!! :tt2:I have to be at the hospital by 9:30. I hope that doesn't mean I will have to wait a long time. But if I have waited this long I can wait a few more hours  Good luck to all the Feb Bandsters

Wow I'm excited for everyone.. I found out on 1/30 that they could do my surgery 2/17!!!!! Fully prepared for a 2 month wait but there was a cancellation. Anyways my 1st thought was wow I'll have to start my pre-op diet next week. It was a wierd feeling almost like well I'm not ready to give up food. But hello I've been going through the process since Sept 08!!!!

I have lost my diet plan from the nutritionist.. What does the pre-op diet consist of?

I am scheduled for my banding on February 9th! I am excited but anxious at the same time. I did not do as well as I wanted my first couple of days on my full liquid diet. But, as I start to see the weight come off... it is driving me to do what I have to do, what I need to do!

I have read so many other's posts and it is amazing at the differences in pre-op diets that are being recommended. Mine a full 14 days, others, 7 days, some a month, some get veggies and bars some only clear liquids... but I think what would be really good to see is a program to help with behavior modification even before the liquid diet. I thought I was the only one out there about to chow down on some lettuce or asparagus... It is ok though... we will make it and hopefully help others!

My band date is Feb 9th! I am so excited. I had a Oct 2008 for Bypass surgery and could not go through with it just one week before and cancelled. I had let my doctor talk me into a RYN when I really wanted a band. So I just backed off and decided not to do anything. Just before Christmas I made the decision to do what I thought was best and follow my heart. So here I am excited about Feb 9th!! I just finished my pre admission testing today!!

All my good thoughts and support go out to you all!!

I am a Feb9 too... good luck!

Are any of you nervous! I feel sick everytime I think of it! I'm terrified that something will go wrong and I leave 4 beautiful children and a lovely husband behind me! I wish it was over! I can't wait to be able to look good again and shop in normal sized shops! I've no confidence and hate myself at the moment! I just cant wait to feel better about myself!

Good luck to all the banders!

Emmage, it would not be normal for someone not to be a bit nervous about this. We have never been here before, it is something totally new to us. So it is ok to be nervous. You will be ok. You need to do somemore studying and see that the mortality rate is so very very low. You will be OK! You will look better, feel better and your chance of dying from an illness associated with being over weight will go away. That is much more to worry about than the surgery you have decided on. You made the right choice, all of us have made the right choice. If you are a religous person, pray about it, pray for assurance that you are doing the right thing. Meanwhile, we are all here for each other.

Tiffany, my doctor has not said anything either, but I started seeing what everyone else was saying here and so I went out and got me some Protein Shakes. I take them for Breakfast and lunch, no snacking and have a regular very small dinner. I had lost 13 pounds in the month from the first time I saw him till my second visit. I go to my pre-op on the 4th and my surgery is the 10th. Unless he tells me different on the 4th, I will just keep doing the shakes two times a day.

*First post* Just joined and so happy there are people who have the same experience. I am all set to go for my surgery on Feb 12th!! I am nervous but excited to start this step. I am on my 2nd day of full Optifast because they want me to lose 20lb by the surgery date. The shakes are bad, totally craving food like its going out of style and it doesn't help the guys are rubbing in the fact they can eat anything haha. Any help or advise for combating non-optifast cravings is appreciated. Why oh why did I start this before Super Bowl. lol.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
