2 days post op - feeling terrible

Recommended Posts

I too felt so horrible for 5 days post-op (with nearly the exact complaints you have) that I cried with regret at getting the band. Not only was I in pain, I was depressed. It was horrible. My family had this, "oh come on -- it can't be that bad" attitude that made it worse.

Plus people kept telling me that they'd never heard of anyone complaining of pain after lap-band surgery. Two thoughts ran through my head: either I'm the world's biggest wimp or something must have gone horribly wrong with my surgery.

On day 6, I felt better and knew everything was okay. I remember how good it felt to get the gas out. I couldn't even stand up straight for a few days there because the gas was so bad. I still did a lot of walking though -- crouched over like I was 100 years old and grimacing.

You are going to be okay. What you are going through is HORRIBLE, but it's going to get much better very soon. Hang in there, and don't let the turkeys get you down.

 That's exactly how I'm walking. My back muscles are not pleased by it either.

I felt this at day 2, not as bad as you describe but yes worse on day 2. Today I woke up and thankfully most gas was gone, walking a lot helped me. Everyone is different though and we all handle pain in our own way.

I keep having this weird sensation every few minutes. It kind of feels like I'm about to burp and then my stomach kind of expands and hurts for all of 2 seconds, then stops. That's the best way I know how to explain it and I'm not sure what it is. I still don't really feel any better but I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who had these problems.

a couple of days after I was banded I wanted to pull this band out myself

I went to the doc on a Sat morning and he took some Fluid or something out and he said I would feel better and I did

I have lost 2 lbs and have had one fill and I still wonder if it is all worth it

I do know that I am not eating the amounts of food that I ate pre-banding so the weight loss will come

hang in there

it is better

and it will get better

then after the first fill I had to be on liquids for two days and mushies for two days and then regular foods

did not enjoy the liquid days

I was banded on 1/05/09 and Day two was TERRIBLE....it got better but it was BAD. This gas pain you describe above I also feel. Exactly how you describe it. I also feel like this 30 seconds to a minute after I take a sip.

I saw my Dr. today she squeezed me in. She said what I'm feeling isn't normal and that I'm dehydrated. She admitted me back to the hospital where I'm sitting right now. It's nice though, they have these touch screen tv's where you can browse the internet too. I have to do another barium swallow at some point tonight. BLEH!

While I'm certainly not glad that you're dehydrated, I'm glad that there was something wrong! Your post had a "I'm not crazy am I?" feel about them. Heres to hoping you're outta there in no time!

I'm being banded next Wednesday.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're doing poorly! I was hoping that you were feeling better... I'm glad you know your body well enough to see warning signals! Now that you know what is happening to you is not the typical post-banding issue, you should feel a-okay really soon! Get that IV in and tell them to take good care of you!!!!

Yes, my Dr. said I could use ibuprofen after surgery. I use 500mg of childrens liquid ibuprofen. I also did a Google search and a lot of lapband surgeons put it on their post-op instructions. i have felt great while using it.

I still feel absolutely crazy. I told all the doctors who saw me about the pain I feel and they all looked at me like I have 5 heads. They told me to use some ibuprofen too but I'm not going to, too scared of my stomach starting to bleed. I'm incredibly paranoid about anything bad happening. I've never had abdominal surgery before and I don't think I ever will again.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
