I noticed the Kellogs Protein Water was very helpful in controlling the hunger. My big problem right now is not getting full, but staying that way. I will be starving 15 minutes after eating and being full. I am having a hard time not drinking while eating though, which I am sure makes a difference. I have a dietician appt at the bariatric center tomorrow, and I am really hoping to be put on mushies.

One more thing...if you're not on mushies yet then drinking while you "eat" (you're probably just doing Jello, broth, etc.) shouldn't be a concern. If you're on the liquid stage, everything you eat is liquid anyway. My doctor indicates that I can drink immediately following meals on the "mushy" stage, but once I move onto solid food I have to be aware of not drinking during, and one hour after, any meals.

Hello my Decemeber Bandsters ! I was banded on December 11th and Woah what a change. My christmas present was to eat mushies starting the 25th... and I can honestly tell you I was estatic. As wierd as it is I actually had a break down and cried...I was sooOOOoOOOo frustrated. Being in bandster hell around christmas is HORRIBLE. At first liquids were keeping me from being hungry which im sure was because my stomach was swollen from the surgery. once I hit the last days before mushies I started getting hungry alot faster and moody. Now it's easier because I stay full longer and I can eat a larger variety. Im on mushies untill the 21st and then I'll Finally have my 1st fill. My band is empty right now so I can eat a little less then before because my stomach shrank but thats about it. 20 lbs down so far. More to come....HOPEFULLY

I was banded on 12/5, after 4 weeks of Protein liquids I dropped 35 lbs. As soon as I started on semi solid food I have put 5 lbs back on. I have been very carb conscious but am not sure what I am doing wrong. My first fill isn't until the 21st.

I was banded on the 23rd & don't get to go off full fluids until the 12th. I am so hungry.. It's driving me crazy. I take it by days though. Yesterday wasn't hungry at all? Today It's been all day long... I think if I could get to the mushie stage it will be better. I am going to try the Protein Water too. Thanks for the info.

I just wanted to turn you all on to a thread I found that has been really helpful and inspiring for me. In case the link doesn't work you can search for it by "I'm here to help." It's a great thread with experienced bandsters who are informative and so incredibly helpful. Everyone who has a chance should really check it out and feel free to ask questions of the folks who have been there/done that.

I'm lucky that my doctor filled my band to 3cc during surgery so I'm not hungry. but my doctor requires a 4 week liquid stage and then a 4 week mushies stage. I finally get to start mushies on friday!!! woo hoo!!! I can't get anything but Protein Shakes and Water down so I'm so tired all the time from lack of calories. I can't wait to be able to eat cottage cheese and refried beans!

I was banded 12/19. As of this morning, I've lost 27 pounds total. 15 on the pre-op diet and 12 since I was banded.:tongue2:

So far, I haven't really had a problem with being hungry. I don't know how much longer that will last though. I go back to the dr. on 1/27 and he said we'd *talk* about getting a fill then.

I started on pureed foods Friday. The first thing I tried was a can of chicken, boiled egg, and tablespoon of fat free mayo. I wanted chicken salad. I only ate 4oz., but my stomach hurt after I ate it. It was like a sharp pain where my port is. It wasn't horribly bad, but noticeable. I'm wondering if the chicken was too much to start out with?

It freaked me out, so I went back to my Protein Shakes and also bought some baby food.

I'm not hungry at all in the morning, so I have a 4oz jar of baby food at lunch (today was turkey and rice) and then a Protein Shake for supper. I also had a sugar fee caramel pudding tonight.

I was only getting 150-250 calories a day and I'm trying to increase that to about 500. I didn't make it today, but I'm getting better.

I think this Friday I'll try the pureed foods again, but start with something a little easier than canned chicken!

I was banded on Dec. 11. I was told that there was 4cc already in my 10cc band. I made it through Clear, liquids, and mushies but when I started on solids I discovered that I really cannot gauge when I am full. I am trying to be cautious....and it seems that that last bite gives me a slightl painful hiccup or a pain in my chest. I stop then...and then soon I do feel full! I just want to know how to detect that boundary-- before the pain or hiccups! I lost 6 pounds prior to the surgery and an additional 14 since the surgery. My 6-week visit is on the 19th of this month. I think I need a fill...I have no desire to mess this up. I am so thrilled that I have gotten the surgery. I just need to tweak me so I can adjust what I need to do. As I sit here writing my stomach is growling VERY loudly...I drank a cup of Decaf tea with splenda to try to "trick it"...didn't work! LOL :tongue2:

I was banded on 12/2 and the first few days was awful. I kept thinking..."why did I do this to myself?... I'm never going to eat normal again". Once I got over my emotional need for food I felt better. I'm a little over a month out and I've lost 36 lbs since surgery as of today (I lost 27 pre-op).

I just had my first fill and OMG...what a difference! I wasn't hungry the first three weeks...then my hunger came back... and he filled me. I really have to make myself eat. It's great!

Good luck ladies - it does get better!!!!!!! :tongue2:

Hi there. Something is obviously wrong, if you haven't lost any weight since your surgery. Have you called your surgeon or nutritionist? You might want to go in and see your surgeon and have him/her check things out.

Good luck!

Did you loose any weight before the surgery or after on the liquid diet? Did you follow the diet or cheat a little. It really is about calories. I am only taking in 600-1000 cals a day, usually closer to 600, and am losing a little each day.

What are you eating, and how much?

I'm in also! I was banded on Dec 19th '08 and I think that it is very strange that we are all on different stages of what food we can eat. I know that it is based on doctor's but geez! I was on liquids for two weeks prior to surgery, then liquid for 7 days after surgery, then soft foods for the next 7 days, and finally on solid foods. I began to eat normal food on Jan 2nd and I have still lost 30 pounds as of this morning since Dec 5th (pre-op diet). I'm curious if there are any others that have been given the same direction???

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
