I am 7 months post op. I have sprained my ankle. I know they recommend Tylenol over ibuprofen but I was wondering if anyone has taken ibuprofen and if their has been any bad side effects if you have. I have been sticking with Tylenol but it has not been relieving the pain much.

Best bet is to check with your surgeon.

I got the worst crick in my neck about a week after surgery. I called because the meds post op only last a few days...plus made me very drowsy, so I wanted something different. My doc told me to crush 3 ibuprofen and could take it every 6 hours!

You just have to stay away from it when you're about to have surgery because it can be a blood thinner.

Mom7010 the reluctance to allow us to take it isn't just operative concern. NSAIDS are notoriously hard on the stomach and can cause bleeding and ulcers. We with the band have slower motility to begin with; docs don't want us to have a couple aspirin or motrin sitting in our small pouch (where there is no stomach acid) eating away at things. So depending on your restriction and when you eat etc, they may be contraindicated. Safest bet is to ask your doc what is ok for YOU to do.
