Getting approved with Kaiser in riverside county california

Hello all,

I have an appt. on Jan 22nd for the Lap band orientation. My doctor has already sent the referral and now I need to take the bariatric surgery prep coarse. My BMI is over 42. I have high cholesterol and even though I am fine right now I have suffered from high blood pressure for about ten years. I have an appt. on the 12th to be tested for sleep apnea (my mom suffered from sleep apnea) and I have bad joint pain. All the other stuff like diabetes, heart disease run in my immediate family. I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who is going threw the program in Riverside county with Kaiser. I live in Menifee and was just wondering what my chances are of getting approved. I'm so excited but I am also nervous that it wont happen.

This is a wonderful website !

Ann

Hi,I was just banded recently, I work at that facility and have a few coworkers who are going through the class, they tell me that kaiser is no longer going to cover the lap band and only goind to do gastric bypass or stapling. Is that true, I've never heard such a thing. I also have heard rumors that kaiser wouldn't cover weight loss surgery unless your bmi is 50,so I know there's a lot of misinformation in it. Did you already start the classes? Here if you need support.

Oh gosh, I hope that's not true. I haven't been to my first appt yet. Its on the 22nd but I know that when my doctor gave me the referral he did say lapband. I would be terrified to actually get gastric bypass. Its so hard to not get my hopes up about lapband but I guess ill find out more on the 22nd. I'll keep in touch and let you know what I find out.

Please keep this thread in the loop of your progress. I am just now going to call to get an appointment. I have been to the weight management class and now am going to get some other appointments going. I would like to see how it goes for you. I will be going to the facility off of Van Buren.
