What the heck is goin on?

Recommended Posts

I was just banded yesterday and came hime from the hospital around 2pm. It's 8:30pm and I just threw up! I have only had little sips of Water and not even as much as they told me to take.

I am also having bad pain and gas pain.

I talked to my doctor and he told me to stick with ice chips and water (that's all I had!) He's not worried. Should I be?

Sorry to hear of your issue. I don't really have any advice for you, just didn't want you to feel neglected:wink2: Some people say gas-x helps with the gas pain, I don't think it did much for me. I have to change position and then I can actually feel the gas bubbles moving, WEIRD!!! If you start to hold stuff down you might want to try some liquid Tylenol if your Doc didn't send you home with pain meds.

Hi Rachel,

It does get better, you should move around as much as possible especially for the gas pain. I learned really fast!

I was on demerol and that made me throw up after surgery... not pleasant. I moved to baby tylenol and was much better :wink2:

I will have to agree with others. It does get better. I have been banded about three weeks now and feel great. I have to say the reason I feel I have done so well with recovery is I walked.... and walked.. and walked. I did have lots of backdoor gas. and growlies. I used gas-x they helped. What I think really helped me was when I started drinking "good belly". GB are pro-biotic drinks I found in the grocery store by the yogurt. That got the good bacteria back in my intestines. Within a day or two of starting the GB, all the growlies and gas were mostly gone.

Hang in there. You will feel better soon!

I have to agree: Walk, Walk, Walk. It hurt the first few days after my surgery, but it really does help you recover quicker. You need to be careful to find the balance, and not over exert yourself. Take it slow and take breaks if you need to. You will know when it's time to rest... don't ignore the signals.

Liquid Tylenol Extra Relief worked great for my pain. I was off of vicodin w/n 2 days after surgery.

Most important is to remain positive! Stress and worry can cause you to heal slower. I am not just saying that... I studied it in Nursing school.

Good Luck to you!

If you are still getting sick, ask your doc if you can get an anti nausea medicine.l I think it is normal to feel that way although I never did but I believe it is typical to have anti nausea meds prescribed after this surgery.

You were all correct. My doc told me to take the meds on schedule, which I did, and I immediately felt better. I was just mortified that I threw up - I don't want to cause a slip. The meds helped enormously. liquid vicadin, gas x and the anti throw up med. Thank you all for the info.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
