First, I think you should ask your doctor. A few beers? Think of your poor little pouch and all the gas from those beers coming up to torture it. () I don't know if my doctor gave a firm recommendation as to when alcohol was allowed, but especially at this early stage, I don't want to drink a significant number of non-nutritional calories. If he gives you the okay, I wouldn't think of drinking more than a glass of wine or something with no fizz. Then, carry around a Water with a swizzle stick, to keep your hands full.

I agree ask your doc. I too was told that the only absolute NO NO is carbonation. Period. That means no beer

as to other alcohol, i was told I needed time to heal internally and to not get the surgery if I couldn't go 3-6 months without liquor.

So check with your doc.

Is a few beers really worth risking damage to your pouch or band? I don't think its a good idea at all.

I'm sorry to say it... but I agree. No carbonated beverages at all is what I was told. I have read on here about people who have tried a soda pop and really wished they hadn't. Wine?? Screwdriver?? Have fun!! Becky

Ditto what everyone else said. I've heard horror stories from folks who had carbonation and ended up in severe pain. Plus, I was told it could cause band slippage by making the upper part of the stomach swell. I was banded on November 6 and I've had alcohol. I had some wine and some tequila, but not a huge quantity because of the calories.

Sorry Kutach

I just had my post op visit with my Dr. yesterday and asked him specifically about beer! He said NO WAY! It's the carbonation, like everyone else said. He said wine or other stuff, ok, but just watch the calories!! Have fun at your party!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
