Hi Jasmine,

The 25 lbs you have lost so far is great!. I wouldn't get discouraged if you haven't lost any weight in the last week. Your body needs to adjust to the amount of weight you are losing and you will plateau. There is a wonderful support group here in Bakersfield. Who was your surgeon. Did you have your surgery at Mercy or San Joaquin?

I have recently deceided that I am going to have weight loss surgery. A couple of my doctors are pushing for me to get the lapband, which seems safer, but I am just not so sure rather I want to risk having that done over the RNY (scared I won't lose weight for some reason). I'm looking for support and encouragement from people who have had the lap band done. Please HELP!!! Also, I live in San Diego, and I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any great surgeons out my way who perform lap band surgeries? THANX!

I hope I am doing this right. I am new to this site. I was suppose to be banded on Aug. 2nd. but my upper GI showed something called "disodered esophageal motility" so now everything is on hold. I have a appt. Monday with a specialist so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I couldn't find any doctors in San Diego that do lapband surgery so I am seeing Dr. Oliak in Orange(he has a website..droliak.com) He came very highly recommended. I have done alot of research and feel like the band is the answer for me. I could never put my body through a bypass. I just live in Escondido so we are not too far from eachother. Good luck to you.

Kathy

I'm in San Diego and will be getting scheduled next week. Anybody work with Dr. Owens?

Hi,

I am seeing Dr. Oliak who kind of works with Dr. Owens. The are both suppose to be very good. I was suppose to get banded on Aug. 2nd. but my upper GI showed disordered esophageal motility so now everything is on hold. I am hoping for a new date by the end of next week. I live in Escondido.

Good luck to you

Kathy

Hi primadonah,

I'm in Fallbrook... may I ask where you are? I ask because sometimes people say San Diego, coz if they said.... Lakeside, or Bonsall, or Natural City, others not in SD co wouldn't know where of they were referring. :guess

Big hugs, :Banane56:

Hi Marie,

why are you nervous hon? It's a very common surgery... I had mine removed - no complications, scars are infintesimally small...

You'll do fine, I promise! :kiss2:

Hi Kathy,

Sorry about your banding being put off... bummer.

What is d.e.m.? :Banane56: Curious...

Is your Dr Oliak, and Dr Owens local to our area? I'm in Fallbrook and am totally disllusioned with being told my surgeon does lapband, then having to fight tooth & nail to have the surgery done... what he really does is roux en y. :P

So... I've been fibbed to, strung along, told to wait, told to "lose another ten"... yadda yadda... oh - his dietician? She said 'there isn't anyone in SD Co doing lap... so "when" he starts to do them, he'll be the only one." WHA??!!! Any small amount of web searching comes up with all sorts of Docs in SD Co that already DO lap band. :angry

I hope you are able to get your surgery done, in a timely fashion, by trustworthy docs that you have total faith in and don't have to feel upset and let down by. (sigh...) Of all the people we live with and deal with on a day to day basis... having to deal with our surgeons shouldn't be part of the equation. :cry Sorry to be such a downer... I'm gonna go make myself a soy-yogurt smoothie. food always cheers me up. LOL :faint: Do you have someone to go to meetings, or to the hospital with

you? I am totaly available if you need me. Let me know, OK? :)

hugs,

plumptuous

Good morning Jasmine,

I'm pre-op, but I was wondering... this awful heatwave aside, have you been able to exercise at all?

I've been reading other threads over the last few weeks, and several people are (a) staying away from what made them fat in the first place - and (:P exercising. Tough to walk in 120° heat, though....

Do you have a pool available? Or an easy exercise class at a nearby senior center, maybe?

This website is the best thing since sliced you-know-what. HA

Best of luck hon, :Banane56:

There's no need to be nervous about the gall bladder removal, if you already have the lap band the procedures are very similiar. I felt great once I had my gall bladder removed, no more pain. Yes!

Hi,

I am in Escondido and getting banded in Orange County on Aug. 30th. Would love a local support group.

Where are you being banded in OC?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
